I just spent at least 30 minutes trying to get a two line Haskell function to work.
Typed it out, didn't work. Looked at the answer in my workbook, looks fine.
Tried all kinds of stupid stuff, but what the hell it's only two friggin lines of code!?
Ok, whatever, next question... SAME PROBLEM!
I couldn't get anything to run.
So I just finally figured out it was some stupid problems with tabs vs. spaces... Yes, in Haskell spacing/alignment matters

Ain't it fun! That's true of several FP languages, including F# in its "light" mode. Especially on match statements, I often find myself indenting until the IDE stops underlining the expression in red, hahaha.

For Haskell my IDE is Notepad++... Ha... ha... ha...

Python does the same thing... it makes scripting quick and easy, but if a program gets really large and complicated...oh boy, those whitespace problems are a b@#$h to find.
Add a sprinkling of multiple developers working on the same project and everyone uses a different editor (tabs are not guaranteed to be any number of spaces)...

But, if this works with your editors, I always set the editor to convert tabs to spaces. I use the tab key to align stuff but end up with nice spaces.

If you use a different editor with tab width set to a different value it doesn't hurt to open your spaces only file.

The language may be operating system dependent...
So... with all that being said: Fortran.
