if you only bang your head on the keyboard half as often, then you are twice as likley to get injured. since you are madder when you hit your head from something not working twice, then you hit your head twice as hard. The best option is to get a one-hand keyboard, configure it for programming, and get one of the squeze things for your other hand. It really works!

I really feel sorry for all the persons who suffer from RSI. I don't think it's a real disease, it's something between your ears..

I don't believe it is hype for one moment, as I have experienced it, and my father suffers from as it as a result of his work, but I do believe it is not universal.
In my youth (sic) I stayed up for almost 36 hours playing a damned computer game, and at the end it hurt tremedously to operate my right hand. It died away with time (the pain, not my hand obviously!), and I haven't had the urge to repeat the experience yet.
My father suffers from RSI in his legs, hands and neck. It is as bad as (I'm not even going to attempt to spell this) arthritis in many respects.
I expect you have suffered from RSI in the past, though you may not have realised it. For instance, have you ever done a repetative strenuous activity after a long time of abstinance (i.e. riding a bike, carrying lots of heavy objects, walking a large distance)? If so, you will no doubt feel your muscles aching unusally more than "normal" when you've stopped - that is essentially RSI. The difference is that regulary doing the activty will not improve it.
However, it is I suppose between you ears, as that is surely where the pain is interpretted. Brain transplants with mentally damaged people should therefore be ale to cure RSI.

I still believe it's a hype at this moment. For centuries people have been doing the same work, everyday, over and over again, and nobody complained. However, since somebody invented he had a little pain in the arm (either from jacking off or from moving the mouse a little), the entire world seem to suffer from it? I really don't think so..
Note: above is my opinion. I don't mean to offence anybody but I do feel the need to tell this, since I've had some colleagues who complained every freakin' day about RSI, without even knowing how to spell it

For centuries, mankind has done work which does not involve sitting in the same position, peering at a screen and making the same, single, small, repetitive movement over and over, sometimes at 120 x the average length of a word times a minute. It's actually in your back, although the pain is in your arms, and it relates to sitting in the same position, and the effect this has on your spine.

I may have gone a little too far. What I was trying to say was, that in my opinion, only 10% of the people who say they suffer RSI really do. The rest of them are just a bunch of 'clowns who should screw themself and the horst they rode in on" (?)

I don't know any other profession where people do for hobby the same thing they do at work. It is just too much.

Done that, weeks ago. Many screensaver features did not make it because I pretty much stopped, and I've not taken anything else on, except a Dr Dobbs article, which I can dictate to the PC with Dragon Naturally Speaking.

Somethings are hypes for example the internet and stock market, but there is also truth about it.
For me is it essential to know there is a (weekly) time limit for sitting in front the PC and working with the keyboard and mouse. It is in my experience about 50-60 hours.
Since I am working as pro it is also better for my overall health to do sports. And all my lifetime I didn´t like sports.
But I have to do it na it works.;)

Before my current job (hi Steven!), I'd never used one. Having had one for a couple of months, I'm leaning towards evil. I've never had lower back or leg pains before, and now I do. The only thing that's changed from before is the chair I use.

I really enjoyed them. I especially liked all of the levers and gadgets that they have. But I no longer work at that job so I not longer get that enjoyment.
I noticed that my legs hurt every now and then in that chair, but my back felt really good in that chair. Also I would sit cross-legged sometimes and that seemed to solve my leg aches.
One other thing is they come in 3 sizes (A,B,C), are you sure you have the size that best fits your body type?

Perhaps you have it set up wrong? Or perhaps it's the wrong size for you. They come in a number of different sizes and when I was trying them out I found the ones that didn't fit to be very uncomfortable. Then it took me a while to get it set up correctly, since then it's been great.
