Quote: Why do I find it hard to believe he was still using an IDE HDD.
It's possible. Almost any PC is going to be fast enough to write stories, and you don't need fancy formatting. Some authors install software to disable internet use on their computer while they're writing to avoid distractions. An old warhorse with no internet connection and a clicky keyboard may have been perfect. George RR Martin uses an old DOS machine with Wordstar, and Gaiman prefers to do first and second drafts with pen and paper.
I'm sure he had backups- and newer, shinier computers for other things. But those backups are probably gone too.
There's always more Discworld fanfic to read.

Looks like you might be crossing into dangerous territory.

That's the ticket!
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

Have you consider the tie to your station in life when you engineer these quips? Don't get ticketed off if we all demand you take a brake, man.

Is that a train of Arriva, Veolia, NS or DB?
At DB that crap would not happen, NS would blame ProRail, Veolia would give you a fine, and Arriva would call the cops and ask questions later.
