Two months with the Acer Aspire S3

Soccer players say the ball is their best friend. I’m not sure if it’s the same with software developers and their machines, but for at least many of us appreciate theirs computers because the high cooperation happening daily (days with the respective nights). For that reason, leaving my previously work machine (a Lenovo T410 laptop) was hard.

In my case, I have travelled continents with the Ultrabook and I have connected it to many WiFi’s on airports and to international broadband service providers; I have installed tons of software on it, I have read many books on it. I suppose I have done all usage scenarios which the Acer Aspire was designed to and others Acer maybe never imagined.

That sounds like a lot of fun (in fact, it was) but I have also worked hard on it. I have used as a learning tool for myself and for coaching others (you can’t imagine how useful is when moving to others’ workplace), I have used as my main work machine to attend meetings, to work on different file formats, to present monthly status reports, to oversee others work, to conduct experiments -that means I have installed beta software versions and I have setup experimental configurations to make proof of concepts- and so on.

I have been designing and developing software on it as well. I have to say it was hard at the beginning because the location of certain characters in the keyboard is not standard, so adapting was hard but quick. But after all, now I’m super productive -again- and I’m very comfortable with the whole user experience offered by this machine when writing code.

So, what’s next? More travels are coming, new team works, new work places, new software challenges and new life experiences. Of course I’m afraid (you know, I’m a human being), but I’m confident with myself and this Ultrabook. Maybe I’m not a soccer player, but the Ultrabook and I make a great team.

By the way, the Lenovo is in good hands, in my son’s 3-year old hands. That’s a new kid’s generation, with new skills and up-to-date knowledge. That’s the circle of life, as Mufasa –from the Disney’s Lion King movie- said.
