I'm still not sure I understand what it is exactly you're after. Why are you using a panel at all when the SO answer provides code which:

1) Opens a semi-transparent window which covers the entire form in the darkened overlay
2) Opens the modal dialog which can serve as your message container

I think the answer here is to use more than one form, as the answer's code provides.

The code example in the SO answer gives you code for button_Click. This is the code needed to produce and show your popup message + overlay, so you'd just need to put that wherever it is you're showing the message. Probably the best place would be a static method somewhere, such as OverlayMessage.Show("message");?

If this isn't exactly what you're after then you may need to be more explicit in what you want. From the description in this question, the top answer on SO seems to cover exactly what you need.

There really isn't enough information here to help. Is this a frontend (JS, HTML) and backend (PHP, ASP.NET, Java) running separately and communicating with each other? If so, what frameworks are you using? What ports are your software running on? How are you running your server-side code?

You also haven't provided us with examples of code. Remember that we don't have access to your code, we also have no idea what it is you're building, what your end goals are, we know absolutely nothing about what you have now and what you'd like to build!

I can tell you an error of 500 Internal Server Error means that your frontend has hit some website endpoint, but that website endpoint has errored. So instead of looking in the developer console/tools for your frontend HTML and Javascript, look at the console or logs in the backend server for more information on why that error occurred.

Your interval timer is calling the function but it's not making use of the value returned from the function. I recommend reading Functions - MDN to get a better idea of how functions work. In my example I provided to you, I update the HTML UI directly within the makeTimer method.

I'll admit an issue with my code example is that I call setInterval from within the makeTimer function which itself will stack multiple timers. Please see this version instead[^] where we only set the interval timer once within the loop.

Not sure what you mean, in the sample I provided you can see the text input automatically shifts to the right as tags are added. This is because the parent div is set to a flex row, buttons prepended will move the input, which basically copies the same effect? If you're after the functionality where a backspace puts the text back in then all you'd need to do is add a key listener for a backspace, if the text input is empty then simply take the last button's text, prepend it into the input and then remove the button from the div.

Yes exactly, you can right-click and inspect element of the tags input box and you'll see that there's an input, but it's also wrapped in a div (with class "js-tag-editor tag-editor") which is where the elements get prepended. The code sample I've given you mimics what their tag editor does, it just needs tweaking and styling.

A PDOStatement->execute() returns whether the query was executed or not, have you tried checking the return value of that and seeing what the result is? If it returns false then you need to check $stmt->errorCode() and $stmt->errorInfo() to get what caused the error.

I may be being blind but I can't see anywhere in the code you've provided that references a main.js file? Is this file being loaded server-side or is it being loaded by the browser? Ideally we could do with being able to see the part of the code that loads it. Once you've made the initial API call, couldn't you just use regular expressions on your side of the code (PHP) to do the secondary filtering? One way or another you're probably going to need to have some timer or background task to produce this list of devices, it's not clear in the code how this list is being created but I assume you're manually running some process to get it. If you're after a way to have events raised when devices are added/removed then you'd need to check the documentation on whatever it is you're using to produce the list.

I can't really provide full code but essentially whenever the device list is refreshed (either via a background task or through some events) you'll need to take the new device list, loop over it and add/update/remove items in the observable collection so that both collections match. As I say this will be more work than just updating the item source each time. But any changes to the observable collection will cascade to the ListCollectionView and automatically update the dropdown contents :)

I couldn't find anything specific online but what I would guess is that this could be a browser security feature. In no way should any website be forcing the user to download that many individual files, it's no surprise that the browser has limited it to 10. I would check the developer console, no doubt you could see some warnings/errors about too many "createObjectURL" references or similar.

Not least of which is what happens if, for any reason, the session end doesn't trigger? To rely on an event like that to clear up resources can be dangerous, especially if you're locking table records. As an alternative, a more appropriate way might be to have a database table which keeps track of uploaded files and they are retained for X hours (could be as short as 1 hour, or as long as 48 hours), and a background job runs every day which looks for files older than X hours and removes them. This would detach the file resources from the session, and also allow you to track uploaded files via the table. But as you say, if this is a large, existing application then it might not be so easy to make such changes (coming from experience, I used to work on a monolithic, 15 year+ application and fortunately we've just started phasing it out, I can understand that sometimes it's not as easy as just "reworking" something)

Part of the problem is still that there's cleaning that needs to be done when the session ends. In an ideal application, one shouldn't even need to register for a session end event unless it involves removing some table data which tracks the session activity. "perform cleaning an maintenance jobs" is an example of what probably shouldn't be happening when a session ends. This is just my opinion though, I don't know enough about the code base to make any educated suggestions but I would re-evaluate how the application flows if there is cleaning and maintenance to do on a session end. Especially any part of the flow which has any locking tied in with sessions, this is an extremely bad idea which could lead to any number of problems (regardless of whether it's table-level locking, row-level locking, file-locking)

I'm not au fait with ASP.NET particularly but I think any system which depends on waiting for sessions to end in order to clear up resources is a bad system. Sessions should be used for storing metadata associated with a user or anonymous browser session, and should certainly not be locking records in a table or tracking generated files. I'll repeat that just emphasis, in no way should a session be locking table records.

It depends exactly what you're trying to do, as I say it depends how you're serving your pages. You're either using server-side rendering via PHP or a similar backend framework, or you're serving your pages using a client-side framework like Angular/React. If you're not using either of these then you're creating static pages which, depending on the requirements of your project, may or may not be suitable.

If you're trying to get it to scroll horizontally (which is odd, a menu shouldn't be scrollable horizontally, usually it's done vertically) then you may need to add a max-width: 100vw property to the .top-bar-section class. CSS needs to know how wide the container will be before it can introduce scrolling. Also (not related to this question) you have two directly nested <ul> elements which isn't valid HTML.

I see, I notice you're using data-fancybox which I believe is a reference to the jQuery lightbox plugin. It's entirely possible that this plugin is changing the DOM structure of your page which means the element could be being affected. Unfortunately I don't know enough about the plugin to make an informed guess but you could try inspecting the HTML elements within your browser (typically right-clicking the element and choosing "Inspect" is enough), and you should be able to see whether the page is the same. Here is an example of the anchor working[^], so the scrolling shouldn't be an issue.

What are the types of authorId and author.id? The === comparator checks for types as well, so if author.id is a string and authorId is a number, the find() would fail. You can check using typeof(authorId) and typeof(author.id). If they're not the same then that explains the problem.

As you say, trackingElement.closest('[data-tracking-filetype]'); throws an error because trackingElement is null. You need to investigate why it's null. If you're always expecting the value to be non-null then you need to take a look at the part of the code where it finds that element. I'm unable to reproduce this result. I copy + pasted the exact code above into JS fiddle, then manually set each of the variables to the values you've described and I get the correct answer. There must be more to this than what we can see. For example, could some of those variables actually be a string instead of a number?, that could affect the result.

I will say this, if you sum together all the values except the "4" from the off_qi variable you end up with 3.05, which is close.

A 500 error code could indicate you're sending across something unsupported by the server. If a server produces a 500 response it could mean they're not setup to handle a certain scenario, so I'd maybe look at the XML content you're sending across and whether you're using the correct URL with the correct headers.

I'd also advise debugging the code (put in a break-point somewhere) and check the content you're sending across. It looks like you're calling both soapEnvelop.load() and soapEnvelop.LoadXml() which is strange.

Usually this means a variable that you're referencing has a value of undefined when you try to read the property (as the error suggests), however in the code you've provided there are no path references.

I did read your comment but it still doesn't provide anywhere near enough information to understand what the issue is. Saying it "does nothing" doesn't help identify what the issue is, and "the code does nothing to the site." is very vague, your code shouldn't do anything to the site.

Imagine if I had a problem with a piece of code: int number = 1 + 2; and I raised a question and said "I'm running this piece of code but when I put a breakpoint on the line and step through the code does nothing". You'd be wondering, "Well, what is it you expected it to do? What is the problem with this line of code? What do you mean by nothing?"

This is a similar situation, we're not running this piece of code, we can only observe what you tell us. As I asked before, is it that the SelectNodes() method isn't producing any results? Is the code above throwing an exception? If you debug the code and step through line-by-line, what exactly happens?

As for checking local storage, under Chrome you can open your developer tools, navigate to the Application tab, then find and expand the Local Storage option and there should be an entry in there to be able to see your local storage.

If the files aren't too large (ie. less than 2MB) you might want to also consider debugging the code and seeing what these variables are producing. I don't know what the readFile() method is but it's always worth having a check to see if any console errors are being produced and debugging it to see what the values of each variable are. Could just be a permissions issue?

But if there is a chance users could be uploading larger files then it's definitely worth looking into an alternative way of handling this, even if it's just adding a check to prevent too-large files from being uploaded (Blob.size[^])

Try printing out the message in the sendMessage() method and check that the value has actually changed. I just noticed you're giving the input a template reference #refVariable and accessing the value through that. You probably shouldn't do that, you could get the new input value in one of two ways:

1. Give the input an id attribute and use:

No, the CSS example you've provided is using the . selector which means "elements with this class", not by using ID. In CSS using .example would match to elements with class="example" while #example would match elements with id="example" (this is basic CSS knowledge, so if you're unsure or confused on this then you might need to look at some CSS tutorials)

To answer your question about changing the IDs, you assign the ID in the HTML part of the script you provided. What you probably need to do is either use an ID column that is returned from the request response, or just have a var counter somewhere in the script outside of the loop where you add the checkbox HTML. You can increment the counter for each row, and make sure to append it to the id attribute. See this example for how you can append the counter[^]

The server-side only produces HTML content, when the browser sends a request to the server-side for a particular web-page it receives essentially a text response back containing the HTML structure to display. It's up to the client-side to render this web-page, so no rendering gets done on the server-side.

For any and all websites where there are interactive buttons and inputs (including here on CodeProject) they handle user inputs in one of two ways: server-side processing (which is where the whole page is navigated/submitted and the server must process the actions and resend any pages back to the browser) or client-side processing (which is where the browser makes asynchronous requests to the server-side to handle each operation) (See here for comparison).

Unfortunately this is just the way things are with development, some websites user newer tools such as WebSockets to open up channels to the server-side, but otherwise most processing is done through either fetch() or XMLHttpRequest.

Yes, remember that assigning a variable will overwrite what was previously there. If you're looping twice because you have two records, the first loop will assign the variable to a date, and then the second loop will then assign the variable again, replacing what was already there. Using PHP arrays you can assign multiple values to one variable (See this documentation page) or you could concatenate a string to contain the dates, using a comma to delimit them (See this documentation page)

Okay I can see you've updated your code now. This is probably because you're looping over the multiple records however you're assigning the values to the same variables:

$start_datum = date('d-m-Y', strtotime($row['start_datum']));

What's going to happen is the first result will be looped and assign the dates to these variables, and then the second result will loop and assign the new dates to the same variables, overwriting the results from the first! You probably instead need to store these dates in a PHP array, and then later in the script loop over the PHP array to print them in the Javascript part.

Alternatively, you could build a comma-delimited string and then just print out the string instead. I won't tell you how to do either of these approaches, you're probably better off doing some research online and working it out for yourself 😊

I think foremost you need to re-examine the structure of the PHP page. Make sure to put scripts in the appropriate places and only loop where you absolutely need to. If your query is only ever returning one result however then for now the code you have should be fine.

As for other dates in the database not being excluded, well your query SELECT * FROM reserveringen WHERE huis_ID = ? only returns one result. If you want other start/end dates to be excluded you need to run a second select to select all start/end dates from the database, and then apply them to the script where you exclude dates.

What are you going to be doing with the rows that are selected? It still sounds like it needs to be client-side. For example, if you're planning on allowing row selection and then the user clicks a button, what you'd want to do is on the client-side add an event listener for the button click, and then you'd get the selected rows by doing something like document.querySelectorAll('input[type="checkbox"]:checked') which would produce a collection of checkboxes which have been checked. You would then use the data from these checkboxes to build some sort of request to the server-side to perform an operation.

Can I ask why you would need to get the checkbox instance on the server-side? Anything on the server should be business logic (performing operations such as data manipulation, transformation, persistence etc.) while on the client should be anything the user can view and interact with. You can't expect the server and client to have access to the exact same HTML elements because that doesn't make sense.

Any event listener for listening for checking events, or button clicks, or text inputs, need to be done all on the client-side, the server doesn't need to be aware of any of these sorts of events. Instead, when the client-side event is triggered (ie. a button click or check event) then the client-side can send a message to the server-side via something like the fetch() API or an XMLHttpRequest to indicate that something has happened. So if the user clicks a "delete" button next to a row on their screen, you'd expect the client-side to send a "delete this record" message to the server-side with information on what record to delete.

This SO answer has a good example of how to achieve that. You need to maintain a variable to store the current "page", and a variable to store how many items should be displayed per page. You'd need to add a "show more" button and when that's clicked, increment the current "page" and then select a range of values from the array based on the "page" and the count. Ie:

I think this depends on how you're rendering the content into a table. I don't have much experience with running a Node.js server so I'm unsure of it's capabilities but I would have thought you'd need to create the checkbox element on the client-side. Surely the purpose of the server is to provide a sort of REST service (which means basic JSON in/out), and the client-side should be building the table and the components within it. If you make the client-side do the work of creating the table, then you should have somewhere in that piece of code which creates the checkbox to which you can bind the event listener.

Alternatively if the client-side JS is happy to render the checkbox returned from the server-side, then you need to add a post-rendering event listener to handle that.

As I said, you need to check that the dJson6 variable has values in it. I'm not familiar with using JavaScriptSerializer (please see the extra comments in my solution, you shouldn't be using this class but instead using either the built-in JsonSerializer class or using the Newtonsoft.Json package) so I can't tell you how to do that, but if I was to guess I would think there'd be a Length property on the value. If there is, you need to first check if the length is greater than zero, and then check whether the first element is null or whitespace.

The server-side cannot interact with elements rendered on the client-side, these are two very different entities. As you said, you're performing a GET request and populating a table, presumably it's when the table is populated that the checkboxes are created. If you want to interact with the checkboxes (ie. perform some action on the server when a checkbox is checked) you need to register event listeners on the client-side, and then perform additional GET/POST requests (or use WebSockets) to communicate with the server-side to tell it what to do.

Remember, you'll need to register the event listeners only after the table has been populated. How that happens is down to your code (which we can't see in this question).

It's quite common for browsers to limit certain operations when running from a local file for security reasons. It could be your browser is either not loading the remote CSS, or your browser (ie. Goto - I know, but that's no reason not to. -- there absolutely is a reason not to. Modern developers do not use these semantics, so it's better to understand from the start that you shouldn't be using them. If you decided to join an open source project, or start your own, or tried to get a job in a development role, and you were using goto as part of your development then there's a good chance you'd be in trouble.

Aside from that, it also makes code more difficult to read than it needs to be. With appropriate if, while and return/break/continue statements and correct indentation, code becomes much easier to read. Remember that while it might seem an okay practise for yourself to use, asking for help on code which is difficult to read isn't likely to trigger many responses -- aside from the one you've already seen: "Don't use goto"

Just my two cents, you can take it or leave it. I recommend you do move away from using goto when developing code however.

What you have is a form with a submit button. When the user clicks the submit button (or probably presses ENTER in the text field) the browser is going to submit that form, which will redirect to a different page (probably the same page but with '?' at the end of the URL). When the browser redirects, it will cancel any Javascript running on the previous page.

As per my example in my answer, you can cancel this browser redirect by calling e.preventDefault(); which tells the browser that you're essentially going to handle things yourself (via Javascript). This should ensure that your Javascript code in the sendMessage() function gets executed completely without interruption.

If it's still not working after my recommended change, you might need to use the developer tools in the browser to look at the console and/or the network requests to see what's happening in the background :)

If the hard-coded version works, but the variable version doesn't, then there must be something wrong with the value of the day variable. It could be something as simple as the year not being properly formatted, or any one of the d, m or y variables not being correctly assigned.

Have you tried debugging the code in the browser? You can set a breakpoint on the line and inspect the value of the day variable, otherwise you can also use console.log(day); to print out the value to the console.

You haven't provided any HTML or JS code, only CSS code. It's going to be difficult to help provide a solution when we can't see what you've attempted already. We can best guess, but if you're using a library like jQuery then it'll be much simpler than using vanilla JS.

Space in what way? Are you talking about padding, margins, or just the distance between the label and the input?

You're using a row and then col-md-2 and col-md-10 which means that the label is going to take up 16.66% of the space on the left while the input will take up 83.33% of the space on the right. You can change col-md-2 to col-md-1 to reduce the width of the label, and change the col-md-10 to reduce the width of the input.

Edit I also recommend you look at the Bootstrap documentation to get an idea of how to use it. This is the second question you've posted related to Bootstrap, and the documentation will provide most of the answers for you.

I've provided you with a JS Fiddle which will let you dynamically create textareas, each bound to clicking a certain element, you can use that as a template for creating your own system.

If having textareas generated per-click isn't what you're after then you'll need to come up with an alternate solution. If you have just one textarea on the screen and you're toggling visibility of it, then of course it will just display the previously entered content each time.

You either need to take the content from the textarea when it's hidden each time and do something with it (submit it via AJAX or store it in a JS variable), or you need to create new textareas with each click.

By API Gateway are you referring to AWS API Gateway? If so, that service provides an entry point for routing API calls to a load balancer and eventually a backing API, you wouldn't be expected to pass SQL queries to any API setup like that?

AWS RDS is a service which provides database connectivity, if you're using an API you'll need to refer to the documentation for that API. All API gateway setups have a public URL which is accessible for making the calls.

You might need to use the developer console in your browser to debug the code. You can set a breakpoint in your script and step through the code to see what happens. It sounds like your Javascript isn't able to find the element in the parent window.

You could also try window.top.document.getElementsByName() instead?

The getElementsByName produces a nodeList which is one or more elements. In order to change the value you'll need to get the first element in the list, then update the value directly, like so:

If the files have difference sizes and contain the raw SQL that has been exported, have you tried opening the files and seeing what the difference is? Is one exporting CREATE statements while the other is only exporting data? If you actually look at the two files you should get a clearer picture of the difference between them.

You could also use a tool like WinMerge to compare the file contents.

Just out of curiosity, why are you doing a LIKE on two dates which have been formatted to match specific strings? If both the DateCreated and the datepicker1.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd") are both formatted to '%Y-%m-%d' then the LIKE and the % symbols won't do anything.

Have you tried opening the developer console in your browser and checked to see whether any errors have been produced? If the form isn't being generated then there must be something not working, by checking the console you can check if the JS has an error somewhere, or if the AJAX request wasn't able to access the JSON file.

I think one thing to note, potentially, is that AJAX doesn't play well if you just open a HTML file from file explorer. Browsers generally have strict rules around accessing files on the local computer, so it could be that your browser is blocking the request. Again, check the console to see what the issue is :)

I've updated my solution to include more information. It's quite common in programming to keep track of the states of things in variables, and in this case we can check the value of the myVar variable to see whether we need to start/stop the timer.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean. The parameters passed into a function can be constant values (like 1, 2, "Hello") or from variables. You can update variables by simply assigning them elsewhere.

You can add more variables for global state tracking by declaring them in the <script> tags. You can create functions which can be called, ie:

function doSomething() {
..
}

onclick="doSomething()"

If this isn't what you meant then please do provide more info and I'll help where I can :)

It sounds like you need to consult the documentation on the API. I think many REST APIs support some sort of "maximum results" parameter, it'd be down to whatever API you're calling. They might use paging, in which case you can make repeat API calls until you receive a page that has no results.

It sounds like you have a memory leak in your code somewhere. A memory leak is when you're loading a resource which consumes memory, but you're not adequately disposing of the resource when it's no longer needed. This winds up consuming more and more memory, so you'll need to run some diagnostics to work out what object(s) are the problem.

Presumably yes if that's where your distributor code is being stored, that would be how to output it. Just be careful in case your distributor code somehow ended up with single or double quotation marks, you might need to use addslashes() to escape them.

Also be very careful that the distributor codes you're talking about cannot be manually input by users. Someone could maliciously add extra data which would break the script and run JS code unintentionally 😊

This might be an issue instead with PHP creating a temporary file on your file system when the file is uploaded. PHP would normally consume the upload and store it as a temporary file somewhere so it can be accessed (via the 'tmp_name' property). Have you tried checking the $_FILES['file']['error'] property to see if it contains more information?

What steps have you taken to debug this code? "does not work" isn't enough for us to go on, you need to use your browser's developer tools to inspect and debug the Javascript code, and use your PHP IDE to debug the PHP code to give us a clearer idea of the issue.

Is the JS producing a 400/500 response back? Is the PHP code failing at a certain point? It's hard for us to tell by just looking at the example you've given.

That being said, if you take a look at the session_destroy() documentation I don't think calling session_destroy() is enough. The documentation says that it won't unset global variables, and they provide an example (see Example #1) for completely removing all session data.

You've also not provided complete code. If the issue is in model.BVMS_PMON = data.BIW; then you've not given us any code to tell us what this model variable is. Is it a class? We can't see what the BVMS_PMON property is but if I was to guess it's going to be a string, and you cannot assign a bool to a string without converting it.

Again, you need to debug your Javascript code to see what happens when it runs. This means putting in breakpoints and stepping through the code to see what happens. Without any errors visible in the console, you're reliant on debugging the code.

If your console is not producing an error message (which it should do if some part of the script is not working properly) then you may need to debug your Javascript and step through the code line-by-line and see what isn't working.

For example, it may be failing to load the Q1.xml file. In your switch(xmlReq.readyState) block you only return if the ready state is something unexpected. Also, you haven't got an error event handler setup:

At this stage on you can debug and identify what error is being produced. If you can provide us with information about the error, we might be able to provide some support.

Yes Javascript routing can detect the path of the URL when the page is loaded, so having something like /view/episode-1-some-title/ would be loaded correctly.

I suppose the main benefit of this is distribution and sharing? Imagine if someone opened a product page and wanted to share it with their friends or partner as a suggested present for Christmas, they will typically take the URL from the browser and send it across. Without this functionality in the URL, they'd have to give detailed instructions to find the correct page. And if they wanted to bookmark the page, well that would be impossible if the URL wasn't constructed properly.

Search engines also struggle a little bit at the moment with SPAs, though they're making best efforts to try and improve their indexing engines. If the entire application was locked behind button presses however, that would become impossible to index.

You'll need to amend either the API endpoint to correctly produce the result you're expecting (we can't see this code, you haven't included it, you can always edit your original question by using the Improve Question button) or amend your Javascript to correctly consume the data.

As I said, your Javascript is expecting a JSON object in the response body, but you can see from the console.log() line that it's producing a JSON array instead. Either your Javascript is wrong or the result returned from the API endpoint is wrong, you need to assess which is the correct result.

This sounds more like the API isn't producing the output that you expect, rather than an issue with this piece of code in particular. You might need to look at the documentation for the API endpoint and see why it's producing an incompatible response.

Your code is expecting a JSON object back with properties such as 'dnum', 'num' but you can clearly see the actual response out is a JSON array of objects.

You've provided an example of a JSON payload, is this how it's stored in the PHP? If it's stored as a string you'll need to use json_decode() which takes a JSON string and converts it into an object. Then you can access the properties of the JSON accordingly.

Also remember that this JSON decoded would be an object so you need to reference the properties of said object. Ie. $object->data->orders->order
