Instead of a preview, try to display that data set in a datagrid, for instance, and see if that extra column shows up.

I have tried it after setting the permissions as full access to everyone - no luck. The program is able to create the activity log, so it can't be that it is unable to write to that folder.

The program is able to write the activity log, so I guess write permissions on that folder exist.

Thank you.
It already creates an activity log, which is how I know that the authentication passed. There is no error returned at the ftp download command, just that no file is downloaded.

Yes, that is why I had mentioned that this program is similar to a console app, and does not have any user interaction.
Thanks for looking and your time, anyway.

Thank you for the reply.
The program is a console app - it downloads a file from an ftp url for further process. Specifically, the ftp download does not take place, when run from the scheduler. I know that the authentication has succeeded, but no file is downloaded.

No, there isn't. However, you could set the parameters from within your program, with the error handling right there.

Charts, will be shown in the report headers (or footers) and/or group headers (or footers). Try to see if you can insert a group in your record, and include the chart there.

Can you give more information on what you mean by "new user"? Perhaps a simple date filter to filter out your dataset should solve it for you?

The data that doesn't display correctly - is it from a database? If so, do you have the correct encoding for your database and tables?

Well, I think you haven't understood me at all... The response data is coming from a COM port, right? I have been asking you to read the response directly into your structure.

The first format statement
temp = Format(temp, "dd-mm-yyyy")
is not really necessary.
Try this:
strSQL1 = "SELECT * FROM AllProjects WHERE [StartDate]=#" & temp & "#"

Why do you have one byte extra for each field? "RE" is just 2 char, right? Similarly for all the fields...
After fixing this (and getting it to compile ;), if, as you say the data is ASCII, then parse->TreatedBloodVolume should give you the value in a string. Like so - "10.20", for instance.
ChandraRam
30-Aug-12 8:49am

Right. What happened to the header info? The first 6 bytes? If that is part of each response, you need to have that in the structure as well... as I told you right at the beginning :)

The report filters for supplier correctly? Check that your parameters are actually being applied to the report - you can do this by temporarily displaying the parameters in one of the report sections (report header, for instance).

You said it is stored as ASCII, right? If so, just create a string of the specified length and you should have it?
ChandraRam
30-Aug-12 8:17am

I have no idea what your data is like - you mention in your question that it is all ASCII, so it should be a matter of just reading it as strings, right? Why don't you put it into the structure and read it to see what you actually get?
ChandraRam

Create your data structure to include the _complete_ response (including the "header" information), even if you do not want to use them further.
So, your structure should start with:
Type - 2 bytes (to store the "RE")
Flag - 2 bytes (not sure what this data is since you do not mention that)
MachineNumber - 2 bytes
Status - 1 byte
....
and so on.

Explain "dynamic report" - do you mean create the .rpt file itself? If so, then that is not possible. Crystal Report structure is a closed architecture.

It is highly unlikely that somebody is just going to give you the code for this. Do some study, either from a book or online, on what constitutes a client-server program, and how you can apply that to your current requirement. You could start with numerous examples found online and modify to suit.
Also, you have included the VB6 tag... are you planning to develop this app in VB6 then? I would suggest you look into VB.Net.

Not sure if I understand your exact requirement... can you not create the report with the chart in the group header (or footer)? That way, you will get multiple charts generated, one for each group of data.

You will anyway need to distribute the DLL file. So long as Excel is able to find it in the path, it should work fine. Just add the function declarations your VBA project, with instructions when distributing, to place the DLL file in the same folder as the Excel file.

Well, if you can't use the Windows task scheduler, you should have your app running all the time. Since you do not want it to interfere with other apps that the user may start, you should have it minimized to the system tray. The polling (checking) for current time is so that your app can perform the specified task at the required time. Code samples for all of these tasks are available out in the interweb.

Why are you calling CreateObject when the object type is already known? In other words, why use late binding, when you have already typed the variable? And, nowhere in this snippet is the code bound to a version of Excel (except in the dialog filter, when you are not allowing .xlsx files).
