Examine Memory Locations

In my application I have setup a memory mapped area.

I have a structure and a pointer to the area.

Are they any way you can examine the memory area using this pointer (Hex dump), rather than using the debugger to examine the data in the structure (bytes, int doubles etc).

Just want to see the memory as its stored without it being mapped to my variables/types.

You can use the Memory button on the Debug Toolbar.

I am using Visual Studio .Net (version 7.0).

I did manage to get up a display via Debug->Windows->Memory, but when I entered the location (0x01650000) it took it as decimal and displayed hex 0x00192D50.

I converted (0x01650000) to decimal and it reverted back to Hex!!?? (0x00192D50)

Am I on the right feature?

I can't help with VS 7, but I can tell you this works fine on VC6 as I use it a lot. Sounds like a bug to me. Try searching the VS7 info at MS.

Error executing link.exe.
I've made all settings in debug mode nad i don't have any work with release and ATL why do i get such error,when i m not working for release.

Named Pipe Closing Problem

Hi,

I have a program which creates a named pipe in one thread and then launches another to call ConnectNamedPipe.

Now at some point in the initial thread it will be required to shutdown, so I have tried calling DisconnectNamedPipe followed by CloseHandle but this does not seem to free up the thread that is listening on ConnectNamedPipe and it remains blocking.

Anybody know of a solution to this

Hello !

I was working on my project and I did something work (don't know what exactly Confused | :confused:

...). Visual C++ threw an exception and the program was exited. Now, when I load my project again, I have always this error message: "Cannot access the ClassView information file. ClassView information will not be available."
How can I solve the problem ???

This is a common problem in VS6. Quit VS and then delete the byproduct files (*.plg, *.clw, *.ncb etc.) Restart VS then you should be fine. It will asked you to re-generate the classwizard database, but this only takes a few seconds.

[edit] ..also, make sure that all processes of VS are terminated. VS6 did have an irritating habit of seeminly crashing, but still showed up in the process list.[/edit]

Thanks for your response !
In fact I tried to rename the *.plg file and it said that the file was in use... So I took a look at the task manager (no Visual C++ was open) and I saw that the MSDEV process was still running... So I killed it and now that works fine (so, no need to delete the files Wink | ;-)

).

Face Recognition

I've been asked to look at the possibility of implementing face recogition from a web cam. I work for a small company so can't afford any extensions that you have to pay for. Does anyone know of any freeware face recognition libraries? Are there any special key words I could google for?

Hi,

I had seen running projects for that one, but it is not really realible and robust.

What the programmer did :
1. Capture the image using the webcam
2. Search from the databank by comapring pixel by pixel. The matching percentage will be compared based on the tolerance defined level say +/- 90%

Of course the lightings and position of the head will sureley affect, even hairdo.

I was wondering out of interest, why don't my MFC projects in VC++ .NET use windows xp styling on their controls?
The simplest way i can think to explain what I mean is:
On a windows xp machine using the windows xp style display, bring up the run dialog from the start menu. The command box has a thin border and looks flat, and the buttons are rounded and have highlighting etc.
Now switch to windows classic style display, and bring it up again. ALL my projects look like this.

Is that just how MFC is, or have i skipped a setting somewhere?

You need to include a manifest file with the application, either as a separate file, or embedded in the exe/dll as a resource. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnwxp/html/xptheming.asp[^] for a starting point.

Thats what I don't understand, VC++ .NET does it by default, and it still isn't working.
Just to be sure, I included the lib (project->properties->linker->advanced->import library: comctl32.lib) and the header (#include commctrl.h).
The manifest is already in the source tree as MFC projects create one by default.
I have tried including the manifest as a file with the app, and embedding it, and i still get windows classic controls.

Any more ideas? :s

hi, this is the first post for me in here,, i am working with VC++ with some of Dev-C++... under VC++ there is a header called conio.h, there is a function called _out ,,, it is to output a byte to a port,,, i can find that function in conio.h's Dev-C++

Your grammar is a bit obfuscated, but I guess that you're having problems writing to an IO port.
In Win32 you will have to use CreateFile() and WriteFile() when accessing the COM ports. Look up the functions in the help files, there is a description on how to open a port.

Hello everbody,

i have a very very idiocratical problem! currently i try to change my application so it then supports the SecurityCenter located in XP Service Pack 2. The communication to the SecurityCenter works without any problems, but only in the debug version. I need to use the funcion CreateFile to enumerate some stuff. And as mentioned this works only in the debug version. In the release version the CreateFile function namly works but the communication to the SecurityCenter is missing. If i ignore (cancel out) the CreateFile function the SecurityCenter recognizes my application again, even in the release version!

Has anyone an idea of what i'm doing wrong ?

The error seems to be that your method, ::Decrypt(), has not been defined.
It is declared in the header file as you have stated, but somehow the compiler cannot find the corresponding implementation of this function.

Hi,
The module is to send data in 1 text box and receive that data in another text box using 2 buttons.
But when a check box is checked, a single line data should be received in the second text box. How is it possible?
Pls anyone help imm.
