It's also called shandy here in the US, Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy[^]*. This is honestly the first time I've heard it called a radler.
Better than alco-pop though, Rock Hard Red - Gray Brewing Co.[^]. Which they somehow refer to as a 'fruit beer'.
* Leinie's Summer Shandy used to be good but then they were bought out by one of the big conglomerates.

I'll prefer a proper beer any day.
But on a hot summers day when you really need a thirst quencher, and you also really shouldn't get drunk, a radler is actually quite acceptable.

I'll take a proper beer to a fruit beer/shandy/radler most of the time but some of the Belgian lambics are really quite good that or a mead over ice in the summer time.
Now personal preference? Single malt or other whisky any day of the week.

I'll drink any Whisk(e)y as long as it's good, it's more a matter of quality rather than type.
But single malt tend to be more expensive...
Best whiskey I ever tried was Pappy VanWinkle 12yo, which I actually found better than 15 and 20yo.
Otherwise I'm quite favouring Springbank and Woodford Reserve, when I'm not drinking Rum.

Pappy is good but I don't think it lives up to the associated hype. The Ardbeg Embassy in Stockholm's old town had a good selection of bourbons including a few different Pappys when I was there this past summer.
I didn't find a good place for rum during my time visiting. Tequila yes, whisky yes, but rum was sadly neglected.
Feeling some déjà vu from this conversation?

Yes, rum is quite neglected in general I'm afraid, but I also haven't found any rums that are up to the same levels as the best whiskeys.
But the variation is great, and even good stuff is quite affordable.
And for Tequila, I tried Ocho and Fortalesa last week that are both supposed to be good stuff. But I simply don't like it very much at all. Fortalesa was acceptable, but I would never pay for it what it costs.
But since you like tequila, I should advice you to try Marc some time. They range from pesticide to pure bliss, so a bit of luck is also needed

I feel the same way which brings much frustration to a buddy of mine. He's a rum fanatic and talks about how great certain plantations are compared to others.
Used to avoid all tequilas as I always seem to find ones that tasted like kerosene. Some of the ones at Puta Madre definitely caused me to reconsider that opinion though. Unfortunately checking them all to find the good ones could be a problem for either the wallet or the liver.

Plantation makes good rum alright, but oh so sweet and ingratiating. It's like fudge, I love it, but in moderation.
Tell him to try out Clément, Compagnie des Indes or Pussers if he wants something interesting.
