Mycroft Holmes wrote: Why would you not download the official free Kindle for Windows.
I cannot state a concrete X+Y=Z sort of logical reason for it.
When I see what's required to use it, I just infer that there's a lot more going on than what meets the eye.

Get Calibre: [^] Read the FAQ: [^]
DRM issues ? I don't have a clue.

I'm ignorant on Kindle (I use Kobo because it does not want to own your books and your soul with DRM) but there is a software called "EPUB File reader" that does the job fairly good and it's lightwight.
"ICE book reader" is a trial version limited to 10 books in its library (but you can remove the ones you added and keep using it) and it's a bit better on some issues (like numbering pages, which EPUB file reader doesn't do).

Kindle's are brilliant, cheap to buy, long battery life, and more free books than you can shake a stick at. Also you can get their free e-readers for Windows, Mac, iPad/iPhone and Android. What's not to like?

Also you can go to read.amazon.com[^] and all of your content that is purchased via Amazon can be read right in your browser. You'll have to sign into your account.
If you have a book that was not purchased via Amazon but is a kindle version you can upload using amazon's software :
Amazon.com: Send to Kindle[^]
I believe those books can be made to show up in your browser (read.amazon.com) also.
I'm not sure why Amazon doesn't push this / market this better / more.

I just use the Amazon Fire tablet or my iPad kindle reader.

I have a DigitalOcean droplet running Debian 8.10 (jessie) that costs me only $5 / month.
512MB memory, 1 vCPU, 20GB SSD, 1 TB transfer.
I followed the instructions at:
Prerequisites for .NET Core on Linux | Microsoft Docs[^] and successfully installed dotnet core.
It took about 1.4 GB to install dotnet and I have 4.5GB left.
Kind of amazed it was so easy. Now to try some stuff.

Yes, and if they tear out a couple of pages and give them away, they get time off for good behavior.

Only if one of them is called Greg or Ian.

You should March on down to the pun police station and turn yourself in for that one. They May take pity on you if you tell the truth, but if July you'll really be in for it.
