Most people don't know that hydraulic fracturing is only one operation at the end of the standard drilling process:
1) you drill a hole,
2) every now and then you cement it,
3) when you're deep enough you bring in explosives and fracture the sh*t out of the formation.
4) oil and gas will flow into your well from these fractures.
5) and, finally, if you're into hydraulic fracturing, you pump water with substances into the well under heavy pressure .... to make fractures bigger so that more oil and gas will flow.
So next time you see "burning water" on you tube think about this:
- if they did a lousy cement job then gas from bellow is ending up in water. There's absolutely no need for hydraulic fracturing for this to happen,
- if they perforate at very small depth (think under 1000 ft) then it is a dangerous operation, because there is water at that depth (and no drinking water at 13.000 ft) no need for fracking there too...

Fracturing (at least in oil and/or gas wells) is not done with explosives.

Fracturing doesn't make oil and gas flow; it makes the existing flow better (it increases the permeability of the rock, it doesn't create permeability from nothing).

An improperly done frac job will fracture upwards from the producing zone instead of into the producing zone. The "burning water" problem is usually from an improperly done frac job, not so much from a poor cement job (but it could be either).
Yeah, I worked in the oil biz.

Worked in the oil biz too.  That is new to me. I was taught that perforation is done by perforation guns, which in turn, use explosives. Wiki seems to agree.[^]. Not to mention the good old nuclear times. Indeed. And hydraulic fracturing does more of the same. For example, the sand that they pump also goes into the fractures keeping them opened for an extended period.
Economically speaking, hydraulic fracturing enables non-profitable wells to become profitable. That is why the world oil reserves have increased. It is good to mention that deepest drinking water is only a few hundred ft deep down. And your average well can be 10.000 ft. So sometimes it is quite impossible for the two to "meet" without gas traveling through the well to the depth where it can leak into water that comes to the surface. But it depends. Definitely shallow wells are more dangerous to the environment.

Found it. Hit 'Request full site' changed Threaded to Normal under View and turned off Request full site.

Now your settings must only remain as they are. Mine are still changed randomly when I refresh the page. For no reason my layout changed from ixed to fluid when I wanted to respond. It's the CP random settings lottery.
Edit: What do we have in the news today? A true random-number generator built from carbon nanotubes? Who needs that? I have a true random settings generator. 
Edit^2: Bingo! Fluid layout is back gain! Now that's weird! Fixed layout was still marked as active with a red underline when I changed it back, but fluid layout was used.
I need a perfect, to the point answer as I am not aware of this.
Please don't reply explaining what method overloading is

I just came back home and refreshed The Lounge, my settings were now Relaxed from Tight. I have no doubt in my case that @chris_maunder is faarrrkkkking with me again.

I really have the same thing. Sometimes I get thread view, next time it opens everything. Sometime it's 10 messages per page, next time it's 25.

Well, it appears my home rig has given up the ghost. Darned motherboard died on me. The bad thing is that it was a LGA 2011 socket that seems to have been abandoned by the hardware industry so no viable replacements.
So, what does the community think of the replacement I am planning to build?
Case: Thermaltake Core V71 Full Tower [ ^]
Proc: Intel Core i7-7740X [ ^]
MoBo: Asus Rog Strix X-299-E [ ^]
RAM: 16GB DDR4 2666 (15 CAS LAT) [ ^]
Drive: 2X Intel 600p - 512GB M.2 MVMe [ ^] (Raid 0)
That's pretty much the core of the system. I will be able to cannibalize an 850 watt PS and GTX 970 from the current rig along with 2 SSDs and 3 spinning disks.
Had the motherboard and processor since January of 2014 so it's not like I didn't get my money's worth out of them. I am irritated that I unwittingly chose a dead-end socket and chipset 
Hoping that I am not locking myself into that again with 2066 socket.

I used to be an AMD guy but I stopped buying them after I switch over to Intel. They are comparable processors but Intel drivers and motherboards have been far more stable for me. Not to mention a whole lot easier to work with. And lets not forget to mention NVidia Geforce cards.

I know the processor is still good, i7-3820 quad at 3.6GHz, but I bought a dead-end socket (LGA 2011). If there were replacement motherboards readily available, I would try to RMA the current board. Since there aren't any that I trust for sale, I have to build a whole new rig. I had to send the first one back since it was DOA so I am glad that I got three years out of the thing with the replacement they sent me.

Probably a good thing. I have one of them too, took twice as long to assemble the case as to build the system that went inside it.

Yeah, it took 3 hours to build.
I don't mind that much at all. The case is considerably larger than my last one and weighs half as much. A consideration I had when picking it out because of the yearly ritual of taking the machines outside and blowing out all the dust in them.

I probably spent double that building it. Due to its size it's the heaviest system I've built. OTOH it's on castors so I almost never have to lift it to move. Just on/off the table when doing the initial build up.
