No such complications. Vertrigo includes an Apache server - and that's the one I use as the web server. The second installation will (I hope) not even be aware of the first. I just copy over the relevant files (the website content) and hope the SQLServer drivers can be found or made happy.

I'm a coder - not much into server play - so I really just want to upgrade. What I'll try on my local machine is to download php (from php.net ?) and see if it will safely overwrite that instance. If so, on to the live server. Even the 32-bit version if far from the rate determining step for any performance problems.

Also - I've played with C# a little, but I'm C++/C . PHP looking like C is one of the things I really like about it. That, and being able to make classes, too!
