Actually,
Texas has the lowest home invasions.
Florida USED to have a home invasion problem. Changing the laws to
the castle doctrine had a near immediate impact.
My family lives near Detroit. The Chief of Police was almost carjacked.
His advice to home owners, protect yourselves, we will not send a car after 5pm
due to budget cuts. As news reports of criminals getting shot went up, break ins
went down.
Here is the great part. We will see. The outlaws are not going to follow the law.
Also, they probably have to be licensed, which means trained, and informed.
I don't fear the guy with 100 nukes. I fear the guy who will do anything to get 1.
If an active shooter showed up in your class room. And you could choose between a
classroom with a few armed students (concealed), or one with nobody carrying... Which
would you prefer to be in? I know my choice.
When I taught on a college campus, I had to leave mine in the car. My class finished about 10:30pm, and sometimes I stayed with students until 11:30 answering questions. So I was walking out to a distant lot, in the dark, with nothing on me. I felt even worse for the ladies who were teaching.

So I had a strange issue yesterday with a WPF app running on Windows 7 Embedded. It would hard crash when the user clicks inside a password box. After some debugging and searching for solutions it turns out that Embedded didn't have the Arial font installed and the password box needs it to display the * . I installed the font and all is well. What a weird issue!

Why? What should it do other than bring the problem to your attention and let you fix it once and for all? Sweep it under the rug? Use another font that may or may not work as a substitute?

A hard crash is hardly informative. No information was given as to why it crashed.

Ah, ok. Then someone just did not expect that the font could ever be missing. Not a big deal, that can happen to anybody. You probably know that kind of function where at least half of the code is concerned with preventing all kinds of errors and still some slip through because you did not expect that particular thing to ever happen.
