Well, speaking for myself, I will not live in certain states and certainly not visit certain cities. In fact, I'm not actually that keen on travelling abroad at the moment.
And there are obviously places in certain cities that I, as a white guy, will not wander into.

Yes, every time someone is shot.
I stand behind the right to possess arms, I don't think carrying them is an answer to anything. I don't want to own any.

I think they need an amendment about the constitutional right to bring alcohol with you!
Gun + Alcoholic beverage would be a really powerful mix! One that could only be controlled with more guns and alcohol!

No need to worry about that, it's not like students to enjoy the odd alcoholic beverage.

I think students not on mind-altering drugs should be suspended.

An armed society is a polite society.
Y'all sound like the idiots here in Texas that were claiming that the new "open carry" law would result in blood running in the streets, and that it would be "like the old west". A couple of things you are probably ignorant of (if you don't live here):
0) To carry a pistol in Texas, you need to pass a (hopefully) rigorous background check, take a training class on the legalities of using your weapon, and spend at least four hours of actual range time to prove proficiency. After that, you get your concealed carry license.
1) You must be at least 21 years of age before you can legally possess a hand gun and get a concealed carry license. For rifles, the minimum age to own is 18 (I think), and openly carrying a rifle is legal without a license.
2) The number of people that are licensed to carry in Texas, and that have abused that privilege can be counted on ONE HAND. Compare that to the number of cops that have broken the law (they're allowed to openly carry weapons), and any reasonable person begins to wonder who should/should not be carrying a weapon.
Finally, someone that wants to shoot up a classroom or teachers office will most certainly NOT be deterred by gun-free-zone signs. The only thing that might deter them is the knowledge that they could be shot themselves, but the insane are rarely concerned for their own life.
All this hand-wringing and doom-saying is pointless, absurd, and laughable.

As the Dallas police found out recently, when the bullets start flying, the line between "good guy" and "bad guy" gets very blurry.

Not as blurry as you might think.

But didn't I hear that Alaska is the worst state for gun deaths?

If you go back and review history, the number of criminal shootings was lower per capita than they are today. So that makes "wild west" doomsayers just plain stupid.

I think this will be great for the grade average.
Teacher: "John, you got an F on your homework..."
John: "The F you say!?" *point gun at teacher*
Teacher: "Heh, seems like I can't read my own handwriting... I meant to say A+, of course..."

There have been guns in my house for over 40 years, and there hasn't been a single shooting there. Your generalization sucks big hairy donkey testicles.

Wow. You really are a Texan, if someone expresses a contrary view to your opinion/feelings, they are either stupid or some other personal attack takes place. Why is it you can't mount a cogent logical argument for your side of the discussion? Grow the f**k up. You've had 40+ years to come up with a good argument, show it.
I've read and respected many many of your posts, and know you're capable of much better, but on this subject you seem to have devolved.

Actually,
Texas has the lowest home invasions.
Florida USED to have a home invasion problem. Changing the laws to
the castle doctrine had a near immediate impact.
My family lives near Detroit. The Chief of Police was almost carjacked.
His advice to home owners, protect yourselves, we will not send a car after 5pm
due to budget cuts. As news reports of criminals getting shot went up, break ins
went down.
Here is the great part. We will see. The outlaws are not going to follow the law.
Also, they probably have to be licensed, which means trained, and informed.
I don't fear the guy with 100 nukes. I fear the guy who will do anything to get 1.
If an active shooter showed up in your class room. And you could choose between a
classroom with a few armed students (concealed), or one with nobody carrying... Which
would you prefer to be in? I know my choice.
When I taught on a college campus, I had to leave mine in the car. My class finished about 10:30pm, and sometimes I stayed with students until 11:30 answering questions. So I was walking out to a distant lot, in the dark, with nothing on me. I felt even worse for the ladies who were teaching.
