It's true, I do. In case anyone was wondering what I've been up to over the last few months (probably not, after all, why would you), I've been busy launching a new business to try and save a museum. This has been with the help of Intel, and I was interviewed for a magazine about the work I'm doing with this. My interview went live yesterday[^]. There are a few typos as we conducted the interview over the phone and I guess my accent got the better of them.

Interesting! Thanks for sharing and good luck with that project, I hope it'll work out!

There's more than just me trying to save the museum. We currently have about 25,000 supporters.

Not necessarily. As with all technology, it depends what you use it for.

Hey @Pete-OHanlon
I re-read the article once more and found it even more interesting. I'm curious and feel that I have a lot of questions. I don't want to bother you with all of them, though, but a few perhaps:
1) Are you doing all this by yourself?
2) How far have you come? I gather that there is still a lot to do? Are there any features that are ready now (and that I could see if I were to go visit the museum)?
3) Isn't it hard using facial recognition for this? Peoples faces change as they grow older, so recognizing people after a while may prove difficult? Especially with children like you mention, because I believe that your face changes the most when you're young? Also for the soldiers in the old pictures, that might not have been taken at approximately the same time?
I really hope you can pull this off. Personally, I like to visit museums, even the way they are, but I agree that you have to change them to get younger people to see the attraction as well...

As I gain traction with this, I will have to start employing people - it is a business after all.Johnny J. wrote: How far have you come? The virtual greenscreen prototype is done - so I have the ability to put you into the archive footage. This is a technology that I will keep adding features to - these are ultimately going to end up being museum/display specific, so I have built this as a pluggable pipeline. I also have the facial recognition built for when people arrive at the museum for registering new visitors, and recognising those who are already present. This facial recognition module also runs stand alone to identify where people are in the museum. The other side of the facial recognition has nothing to do with cameras; so I've been building a graph database for capturing the metadata from photographs which includes facial landmarks where it can identify it - this is one of the big selling points because there is all sorts of analytics we can do here.Johnny J. wrote: Isn't it hard using facial recognition for this? Yes. The key thing here is that people will still be checking into the museum through reception areas, so anyone who the system doesn't recognise will still be findable, and their image can be updated - I just drop their old landmarks and add new.Johnny J. wrote: I like to visit museums, even the way they are That's what we're trying to do - by adding more interactivity, we want to give people incentives to come back to the same museum time and time again.

What en enormous task.
Being lazy like I am, I'm kind glad I didn't get that assignment...

It is enormous. Right now, I just have to be able to prove the technology - we're looking to build a new DLI Museum, from the ground up, with this technology being put in from the start. There are huge logistical issues that need sorting out but that's why I'm working with Intel on this.

Showcases for their technology. They've invested a lot of money in this tech, and this is a real, practical example, out in the real world.

I suspected that.
I also suspect that there will be security products on the market soon using this technology.
