I worked in a data center similar to the one in the photo. The person sitting at the console had the "easier" job. Continually mounting and dismounting magnetic tapes on the tape drives was a bit more work.

when they die? How about your mom or dad? Do let me know when they die, so that I can make fun of them. It will help you heal, trust me.
Edit: I removed the profanity. However, I don't think it is cool to make fun of dead people, especially brave people, who died trying to further science and space travel.

You know what NASA stands for now - "Need Another Seven Astronauts"
What was the last thing NASA heard on the radio before the Challenger blew up? "NO BITCH - NOT THAT BUTTON!"
That's all I have...

I see people every day making fun of Obama, and his presidency is a much bigger tragedy.

OK, was somebody from your family involved in the space shuttle crash explosion ?
If not, I don't understand your problem.
If yes, I don't understand it neither.

I don't know. Hogan's Heroes was a sitcom set in a WWII POW camp "only" 20 years after it ended.

I'd think it's the setting, rather than who the target of the jokes is, that would make it controversial. But then, I wasn't around when it aired.

What does setting have to do with making fun of astronauts and how they died? Not much.

That's kind of a hypocrite thing to say...
Germans died too, joking about them is as bad as joking about any other (even if YOU think they were the enemy).
With that logic we could joke about Russian astronauts (because in the space race they were the enemy).
That said, I don't have a problem joking about the dead. We do it to poor Leslie all the time.
Not that I'd crack a dead person joke to a friend or relative of the deceased, of course.
Although humor IS a (dangerous) way to relieve the tension.
