While I don't agree with the premise, it does give me pause to think.
Since this official was American, I will use the U.S. as the area of interest.
If someone desires to physical enter the U.S., the must provide documentation - passport or some other form of ID. If I want to have a package physically sent across the border, it is subject to customs inspection.
However, a digital package is not subject to the same potential scrutiny.
So, what would happen if all electronic communication originating outside of the U.S. and being sent to the U.S. was required to have an electronic signature, verifiable, of whom the sender was?

An interesting op-ed piece, but, imho, not so deep; I would have liked to have seen a comparison of the "five" (particularly Apple) to the great vertically integrated cartels of the early 19th. century. Would have been more interesting if it mentioned the incredible amount of funding going into "virtual reality" (as with Magic Leap).

How and who will confirm that they got it right.
But by that time they will keep changing the versioning of internal dlls here and there. And while working on it later, we may end up pulling our hair looking the messed up libraries.
