In web-land (and people who like slow quirky windows applications) MFC was replaced by WPF.
Many people didn't like WPF because basically XAML didn't work so well. So instead of fixing it, they made us all use MVC to separate our code and presentation and, when we had difficulty with that then MVVM came along.....
... (600 lines later) So basically as an industry we have no idea what we are doing.

From below I think you meant WPF and MVC
MVC is MS Web development - Model View Controller where the View is the web page )although the term itself is a generic one referring to the pattern, it has been adopted by MS as their web technology that replaced Webforms)
WPF is Windows Presentation Foundation - the technology which has replaced WinForms by describing the View in XAML (XML related human-readable hierarchical view descriptions) and allowing simple binding between controls on the view and object properties.
So, if you want to stay MS and work on desktop applications - WPF may be the way to go - although IMHO better now to look at Windows 10 application development.
IF you want to go Web then MVC is the way to go.
If you want to dip your toe into the future then Windows 10 Universal Apps is probably the way to go - this uses Xaml too, so WPF might be a good introduction.

Hmmm, my problem is I'm not a pure software person, I'm really a hardware guy who has to get some boards working on a PC, so most of my skills relate to that (Form, Button, Textbox etc.) and I never really have to go beyond creating an ini file! Now I'm looking for another job one firm wouldn't look at me as I didn't have WPF (never really (or had to) done any web development). I was wondering are there any good tutorials (hopefully CP!) that would show the basics? Thanks...

I can't recommend any articles (though my article on MVVM is bloody brilliant!) as I learned the bits I know about WPF by dipping into many articles rather than following one.
I'd suggest taking an existing, simple, WinForms app you have and re-writing it in WPF - that way you understand the requirements, they make sense to you, and you can concentrate on 'how do I do X in WPF type questions - for which you will find many an example in CP and elsewhere.
It's unfortunate that your prospective employer didn't give you a go without WPF - I've just employed two new guys, neither of whom have WPF experience, because I know a decent dev can be taught a new technology quite easily - and at worst can type the words "Need codez urgentz" in Q&A.

Nah, just kidding. It's a shame how service has declined over the years and the position of waiter/waitress is often no longer the quite esteemed one it once was.
Back in about 2000 the three of us took our parents out to celebrate their wedding anniversary. I took a bottle of Moët along for the occasion and mum ordered the flounder. 1/2 an hour later, a bottle of Moët was brought to the next table, to the surprise of the couple sitting there. Realizing what may have been about to happen I queried the waiter and was met with a look that could kill and the admission that yes, there had indeed been a mistake. 15 minutes later when the food still hadn't arrived, we gently queried our waitress about its progress. With a straight face, she told us that we were waiting on the flounder, since it takes a while to cook through. 
Upon leaving there was no mention of either and with a supercilious leer, were told they hoped to see us again some time shortly. It's left a bad taste in the mouth ever since. :sighs:

I've never cooked flounder, but is there more to this other than the fact that fish doesn't take very long to cook?

To be fair to the wait-staff, they were all very young, under-trained and overworked.
