Actually she is correct, there are several species of what we would consider dinosaurs that are still in existence. The answer the teacher is probably looking for is shark, but another example that is currently in danger of becoming extinct is the coelacanth which has been around for about 400 million years.

Interestingly enough, I had to do a report on a specific type of dinosaur when I was in the 4th grade and I chose the coelacanth. That was quite some time ago, so for your daughter to be learning about dinosaurs is probably not that common.
