Hi All,
Regulars will know of my battle with a bit of software for a client that really doesn't know what is wanted or how to do it or what it should do. It is written in VB (not to offend anyone, I really don't see why but it has to be). There was a discussion over some serial numbers that were too big (again I spotted this flaw) and over flowing leading to corruption much. Agreement was reached all was good. Wait for a worrying amount of time and find the problem is they are not following the agreed spec for the serial numbers, which is causing a problem.
The software guy they have, his software works. Major problems. I get winged at by the boss the mod to there serial numbers seems to have been ignored. The issue is was bounced back to me to fix with as much speed as possible (despite me being hip deep in other testing!). The problem is they don't follow specs that were agreed on and then wonder why it doesn't work....

Specs/agreements are no good if they can't be enforced, and especially if the agreement is "exterior only." Besides looking at legal recourse (I'm not kidding) it my worth while for the muckimucks to get together and investigate why they have a culture that supports ignoring agreements and make appropriate changes to remedy the situation.

Well the problem isn't it happened (I could see it was going to happen) its the Bosses attitude of "Get it fixed, You said there were no issues", to which my reply was "If there going by the spec they agreed there wouldn't be,
Do I fix it, or do I tell them", "Do both now!". Part of me suspects they found the issue well before they told us to avoid the paying the bill.

Agreed! It takes skill, something I find that management sadly lacks. There are a lot of good, formal communication practices one can draw on which seem to be unheard of in most businesses. Usually, a big stick is the only form of "remedy."

Go limp on them, force the management team (muckymucks) to deal with the problem. YOU are writing to their spec, sorry I can't fix their software.

Already tried that, we are a small company dealing with another small company. The management team you speak/type of is my Boss & their Boss. One of the big problems I can see is there Boss is the only point of contact open to me (so he gets the error/bug reports and sends them to me via poorly typed emails) so I get the bug fixes/requests late when they have gone through what ever process they have and the actual error will probably loose some details So I fix the problem and make changes without knowing quite what I am fixing/altering...
So another day of 'Huh?' starts...

I have had the confirmatory email with regards to my selection as the candidate in the Limbury Ward at next year's council elections.
It is the same day as the GE so the turnout should be good.
The ward is the one in which I live and I really need to put the effort in getting around to speaking to every single voter in every single house.
A lot of hard work, but worth it if I can get a seat.

Have you applied for you "right to be forgotten" on Google yet? you should clear your history from Google's index before it is too late.
Not that it really matters a **** as other search engines exist and the source pages never actually are removed which just shows how rubbish the courts are at coming up with this drivel. Wait, or that should really be how good the courts are at coming up with this drivel.
Whatever way round it is, it is a waste of time.

Q And A Gripe Of The Day.
So, I've been dipping my toes in the water of answering Q&A questions, having rage quit when some decided that it should become his monopoly. I've had a few answers and no messages informing me that my answer is incomplete and to see the near identical answer they have provided. So far so good, I might keep continuing.
Yesterday I saw a newbie type question. From the context of replies he has managed to find the MSDN page needed, but not the answer to his question (which is on the page, buried in a classname). Instead of pointing out the answer on the page, he's been told there is more-or-less something wrong with him if he can't find it. Good job we don't need new members given that at least some of them will become the wise old elves of the future.
