Back at the end of November I got banned from this site, I received an email with the following charge;
Quote: Your account at CodeProject has been reported as The member is a spammer 5 times and is now deactivated.
I initially thought I had been reported as a spanner, which seemed fair enough (not sure how far the use of spanner as an insult has spread the world).
I sulked at being thrown off and vowed never to return, but as The Lounge is still bookmarked on all my devices I have dropped in for a look now and again, but I resisted signing up again.
This was fairly easy as I was off work throughout the whole of December and so not on a computer very much, but returning to work this year I was naturally in need of something extra to help me avoid the work, and began to browse more, feeling myself drawn back in, wanting to reply.
And still I resisted.
But the need to vent has become too great, sometimes you get exposed to something so dumb at work that just cannot be contained, ranting on conventional social media seems unwise, standing in the office and swearing loudly is clearly an unsafe option, my wife doesn't care and refuses to listen. So I have had to come back here, just to have someone to moan at.
Although much of my immediate ire has ebbed away with the time taken to sign up and type this, I will leave with just the one, quick, question.
Why the elephant do those who make decisions on what to spend money on always believe those trying to sell them stuff and ignore all sensible council from those without a vested financial interest?
I just love having to work around poorly conceived and constructed systems that are inferior to what I could write myself.

Just kidding, welcome back.

Hi Chris, welcome back... I still haven't received my set of spanners.
It was broke, so I fixed it.

I know, not sure exactly why but it has associated all my old reputation to this new account. Odd things seemed to happen in the registration process.

It is because your profile URL is still http://www.codeproject.com/Members/ChrisElston[^].
The system automatically adds the rep points from your old account ( which had the said URL, too ) to your new account.
Welcome back.

Yes, I actually chose a different name when filling out the form, but when it returned after saving some of the fields had changed to the old values and the two accounts got linked together like this.

I was really wondering why you got nuked, pissed of a code monkey?

Yeah, it is probably because you are using the same email address. I have had some experience with that[^].
Sorry about jumping into the middle of this thread, but I just noticed you were back again. Welcome back

Like all specialized predators, salespeople have evolved to efficiently catch their prey. While the prey will also adapt, in this case the life-dinner principle doesn't apply: the prey isn't killed, merely robbed, so the selective pressure is not higher for the prey. This prey will never catch up to its predator.

Welcome back.
If you have followed the lounge closely enough during your absence you would have noticed that more than one person have asked what has happened to you.
If I were you I would ask at the sugs'n'bugs to have your old account merged with you new one or at least revived. It makes it so much easier for us older people to search for old posts. I'm bad at bookmarking.
Oh by the way, don't be pissed at a few anonymous idiots, it doesn't help. I'm pretty sure that most of the active people here have nothing against you.

Oh I know.
I'm mostly a lounge user at work, so being off work for a month after getting banned meant I didn't spend much time on here at all and it wasn't until I came back to work I started to really miss it.

Welcome back Chris!
I wondered what happened to your account (I think I missed whatever got it stomped on). Anyhoo, Non carborundum illegitimi as they say in Poland. If they are translating stuff.

It didn't exactly get stomped on, more dribbled on until critical mass was reached.
I only made two posts that day, one totally inoffensive and the other in the Soapbox. Both were reported within seconds of each other later in the day. I had a couple of other reports from a week or two earlier for use of the word penis.
It did make me wonder how long a report lasts for, is it 5 reports ever, or 5 in a period or...
Enjoy this, which must be the ultimate not news ever[^]

As far as I know it's 5 reports ever. I seem to recall however that a suggestion was raised in Sugs & Bugs to let those reports expire after a certain amount of time but I don't know if this has been implemented yet.

I'm pretty sure I've reported DD more than 5 times, so there must be a time limit on them
The comments are pretty good on the conundrum. Hardly the moral maze, is it?

Good to see you back! Other day I saw a thread about you.
