In spite of all the objections from the dullards that have no sense of humor, I thought it was brilliant.

Posting the same reply to numerous other postings does not mean you have a sense of humour!

If that is anything like British humour, then no.

I did too! I wish commercials were half as entertaining!

As some may already know I will finish my apprenticeship by the end of June this year and then join the Airforce (radar stuff) until end of November.
Ending my apprenticeship is sort of a big step: I will be a fully qualified Junior Software Developer afterwards, and there is a chance that I will be offered a job within my current company. However, I don't want to bet for that, and since we are undergoing major budget cuts the possibility that they will not offer me a job is there, that being the fact why I am looking around for myself a bit, too.
So here is the question: Any recommendations what I need to take care of?
Anyone knowing a company hiring Junior Devs (C++, C#) by the end of this year?
I am not really picky of the country and the industry, even though I'd prefer a job in the US, Canada or Europe and staying within the Medical Diagnostic Company.
I'd be also very happy if you could add any thoughts and/or experience you have on job search.

Junior Dev, Decent salary, the two are mutually exclusive aren't they?

It seems that you got my point.

That's good, brain fried trying to work out what data needs to be where (and how to get the data out of the spaghetti mess of code, that I didn't write)

I can live with an average salary, for the moment I am happy if my salary after the apprenticeship is going to be enough to pay a Car, the rent, food, a few beers on the weekend and a few days abroad each year.
So an average salary would be fair enough, it will beccome decent as soon as they see me doing a good job.
By the way, since I know what company you work for: In which field of it are you working in?
As I stated to Ravi, most companys are hiring people who need to have a Master or BSC degree, which is not gonna work for me.

Sorry for being cynical but it took me 8 months to find a job after being graduated from university.
And yes I know that the answer to "what can you do with a Masters Degree in Mathematics" is drive a truck!

I would think there would be openings within the large multi-national company you're currently working at. That would be an excellent way to grow and get real-world experience, IMHO.

The vocational departement is acctually already in contact with the Development departments, but recent budget cuts are making me to look out for a backup, if everything fails. Furthermore, a company with a bit of a better culture may be a safer bet than my current employer.
The problem I am currently facing is indeed that there are many jobs open, but about 90 % of them require a University degree (BS, Master or something similar), which I do not have at the time (I still stand here and say that a good Apprentice can beat an average BS or Master programmer, but HR personell udually doesn't think the same way).

Finding a company in the US that is willing to sponsor an H-1B visa[^] for a Junior Programmer is going to be tough. If you have connections with a multi-national company that has a presence in the US, that is probably a safer bet.

My current company is multi national, but asking some guy I already know personally may be even safer.
Thanks for the clicky

Beyond the fact it is in Africa and the capital is Nairobi, I know nothing of this land. There is a chance we may be off there with Mrs wife's job and I was wondering [that's with an O] if anyone knows anything about it, especially the IT industry.
0. I am going to meet someone at the High Commission next week to find out more, but I would like to be a bit better prepared.
1. Yes, I have read what I can on Wikipedia and I am googlin', bingin' and even random URI'in' to find out more.
