Yeah, but you have to utterly stupid to upload critical data to a cloud service and be convinced that no unauthorized person will ever gain access to it (and now I'm talking in general, not about this individual).
I see the benefits of cloud storage, but I would never surrender my data to an outsider no matter how convenient. Do you realize how long it would take to download all that pr0n again? 
As for portability and accessibility, I'm perfectly content with using USB drives and external harddrives. If I loose them, I might be screwed, but at least it's my own responsibility!

I have gone the USB, image and incremental image, route too and the really important part is - store the usb drives in a different geographical location to the computers that they are backing up.
(Fires, floods, meteorites and thieves don't generally attack two geographically separate locations simultaneously)

The cloud is also being used by larger corporations; I don't see them setting up a sneaker-net any time soon.
As for accessability; most people with broadband can access their computer using RDP, if they'd configure it.

My solution is simple: I pay $5 a month for a GoDaddy website, which comes with unlimited storage, and operate my own private secure cloud, written and administered by me. It's really not too difficult. Then again, most internet users wouldn't know how to write a "Hello, world" HTML page, so my approach is probably not for everyone.

Long ago when I did web development, I had to explain to customers that if they were on a virtual server (like godaddy) I would not store customer information in the database. I had no way of knowing who the sys-admins were. I'm with 1and1 and any time I had to call for support (very rarely), I always got a Russian sounding guy....

That is on my "to do" list. Right now, it is mainly a kind of personal Instagram that lets me upload photos from my cell phone and tablet, and share them back out. Still very much a work in progress.

They've just played Tavener's "The Protecting Veil" (presumably because the old fella kicked it yesterday), you wouldn't get that on the plebcast.
