As I said, it is not a debate, it is an improvement nut not an answer.
So it cannot be Debator Points, and it cannot be Authority Points.
But the participation is still there.

posting "please clarify" or "good answer" in a programming forum yields debator points (assuming message type "general").
posting "Elvis has died" or a CCC clue in the Lounge yields debator points.

What else could comments be? As Dave pointed out, a comment on an answer is not necessarily a contribution that adds to the answer, nor is it (always) a debate, a question, or (necessarily) organisation.

Unfortunately I second guessed myself after Luc's comment and restarted the rep recalc. It will be done in around 13 hrs. Sorry - I should have just the final bit continue on and it would have been finished soon.

The "comment" may or may not have technical merit. If it has (e.g. "I would have used an extension method here"), it would yield Authority in a forum; and if it hasn't (e.g. "I like the way you explained that"), it would yield Debator in a forum (even when no debate is taking place). I fail to see why that would be any different in Q&A.

I'm surprised how things changed so much. I gained in author which I suspect is the bookmarking. Lost in debator and participant so overall approximately 400 down in total.

Yep, new author points and debator points for being bookmarked. Don't know about loosing debator/participant points though, I haven't lost any. I seem to have lost 80 authority points, for no apparent reason.
ADDED: what may have changed is this: I have noticed a lot of limits have been added to the FAQ, limiting almost every event to a specific number a day. If those limits now are effective, one could loose points.

Hi,
I was on the homepage, and saw a new box thingy saying "Articles Awaiting Approval", so I clicked the doodad because Oooh shiney. I assumed due to the re-calc I'd gained enough points to do this so I read the article. I didn't think it was quite up to scratch yet, so I left a [hopefully] helpful message.
My problem now is that if he replies to me, I have lost the ability to Approve, so I can't reply. Can something be done about this, like letting him know or something. The best link I can give you is http://www.codeproject.com/Messages/3726707/A-good-start.aspx[^] as I now can't get to the article.
My Jedi powers are weak, and getting weaker after the re-calc

Now that you are back in the land of the living (although one could hardly call it that, I knew the universe was doomed when they invented the ear hair trimmer), I do have a Q
How long is the points update going to take?
Or, put another way, my participant points are way off.
(1000 for mvp, 3.5 years of sign ins, plus weekly 5 points for surveys come to more than I have already, plus there is all those other points I have earned, problems or not finished updating?

Surveys are all there, sign-ins we only have for the last couple of years, but it turns out the comment participant points didn't get added in this last recalc. I'll run it again and get them added.

Since this seems to be the most important question on CodeProject in 2011, I thought I would add my two penn'orth.
Looking at my reputation history (great feature by the way) I came across an entry where an answer of mine had been downvoted and I was accordingly docked two points. However I noticed that the answer had been accepted by the OP but I could not see any corresponding positive points in the history. So the question is/are (IMHO)
If someone downvotes an accepted answer, should I have points deducted?
If OP accepts my answer (regardless of its voter value) should I have points added?
I think we should be told.
I must get a clever new signature for 2011.

I've seen this too. I've one comment where the average is more than 3.5 (and therefore upvoted?) but I've got -2. The guidance says that the points are weighted by reputation, but I've no idea how it is actually calculated.

no no. Upvoting means voting 5, 4, or "good"; downvoting would be 1, 2, or "bad". And it works for each individual vote, not for an average score. It gets added when it happens, so a lot of votes may be beyond the 5-page history.

I think yes. It's all up to individual's opinions, and what one person considers an acceptable answer another (maybe wiser?) person may feel is a terrible answer.

Yes. Your "recent rep events" only lists a small subset of your events so the points may have been added outside that range. We'll expand this once we see the extent of the load it puts on the servers.

Still, it doesn't make much sense to see it several times a week (a mathematician would tell you an exponential is as boring as a straight line). Frequently looking at the history is much more informative, as it documents activity, such as being voted, bookmarked, etc.
