I was scanning the site tonight, as I do every night, when it occurred to me that most of what you get here is complaints about the service. That's gotta get old, especially when one considers what things used to be like around the old server farm when you were running on surplus Amigas with their parallel ports wired together using jumper cables.
I just wanted to tell you "Thank You" for the tremendous performance of the site, the general lack of unsightly warts, and the excellent and timely response of the support team in addressing issues. I've done my share of bitching, but having been here since the beginning I can speak with authority - there is no better site on the Internet for geek bonding and technical assistance. You did that - with the help of David and Uwe and a host of others I've never met, no doubt - but you have always been the one to stand in front of the slings and arrows of the Great Unwashed and get the job done, whatever it took to do so.
I appreciate all that you've done for us... There are three sites I visit every day I can reach a computer (the 9 days in the hospital two years ago don't count - I couldn't gnaw through the straps and get downstairs to the lobby with all the morphine they pumped me up with - CodeProject, my horoscope, and CNN (God help me...). In that order... Sometimes I don't have time for CNN.
Thank you, again, Chris. And if I forget to mention it again, remind me in another ten years...

Thank you Roger - that means a hell of a lot. I think the very fact that the bug reports, comments and suggestions are detailed, timely and constructive shows how much you guys care. Living up to the expectations of 7 million of the top developers on the net can be humbling.
I couldn't think of anything I'd rather be doing.
(and I'm to send the cheque to the usual address? Unmarked envelope?)

First question, is this a new feature?
Second, is it supposed to be triggering on the open message? Having the blue header go mostly pale orange is distracting and provides no value IMO.
Third, if #2 is correct behavior why is it completely covering the blue on the right of the user icon and leaving a narrow band on the left?

It's actually a fix of a style issue that had been bugging me for *ages*.
I will fix it so it doesn't show on the blue header.

I was just looking at my tips/tricks and noticed alternates are included. I don't really like that, but that's not the point of this post. My recommendation is that the tip/trick rating average be weighted to account for the votes on each tip/trick rather than a simple average of the rating of each tip/trick. So, if I have one tip/trick with 100 votes of 5 and one tip/trick with 1 vote of 1, I will not get an average rating of 3.

I think alternates should be able to be voted on at all.

I agree. That single one vote on the alternate you provided has disproportionately lowered you're average tip rating. I wonder if article average is calculated in the same way?

No, real articles are properly score-averaged, I checked when I implemented similar calculations in CP Vanity.

I posted a comment to this question[^], but did not vote on it. But now, it shows a vote of 1. Nobody else voted on this question. I saw the same with other questions, showing a vote of one, but no explanation of this vote, just another members regular comment.

Commenting on votes is encouraged (hence the pop out box) but not required. Hitting the Vote button and leaving the box empty casts a vote without a comment.
