Not as such. I want to know if I can write to a file. I'm not interested in actually writing to the file so elevation is not what I'm looking for. I have found Check User’s Permissions On A File or Folder[^] that seem to do about what I want to do.

You could use _taccess()[^] to determine if you have write access to a file.

Not quite. It says "This function only checks whether the file and directory are read-only or not, it does not check the filesystem security settings.", but it suggests CAccessToken so I'll look into that.

I have created buttons dynamically
eg:

after creating button ,Resizing it,

ok it works fine i can see the button with new size on dialog .
But when i save this and open the dialog the button is not displaying on the dialog it is hidden so please help me what is worng.
saving size (top,left,right,bottom) to the file and later open but the Resized button is not displaying other buttons are visible. above peace of code is just example i given not actual code.

Hello,
I've searched far and wide and found nothing. Maybe you guys can help me out with one tiny problem.
I have an win32 app created in visual c++ 2005 that has an editbox that changes its background color to red depending on the amount. In windows XP it works fine even if the focus is not anymore on the editbox. My problem starts in windows vista when the focus is not on the editbox the background color becomes white. If you set the focus on the same editbox it goes back to red.
Is it a limitation in windows vista or should I add extra code to my application?

i wanted to know that what value i should pass in MAKEINTRESOURCE macro for my application icon.

For MFC SDI and MDI applications it is usually IDR_MAINFRAME.
You can check this from Resource View (View -> Other Windows -> Resource View).

I used WMI to get the information of all physical and logical drive information of the system. It works fine with windows XP. But WMI fails to in Windows Vista and Windows 7.
I think because of Securities issues? If yes then how can I bypass these?

WMI needs administrative privileges even for XP.
You can always run you're application requiring elevated privileges in Vista onwards.
