You can try to use Ms Access, it allow you to do drag and drop for tables, while you can still view the SQL syntax,

Dave,
Not sure what you are trying to achieve, and I have no experience of MySQL so I maybe talking out of my ****, but I'm pretty sure you need to use the System.Data.OleDb namespace. Other than that everything should be the same as if you were using the System.Data.SqlClient namespace.
The only other difference to be aware of is that some SQL Commands are and syntax differ from MS SQL and MySQL.

VB.NET makes it really easy to get started. What you want to do is build yourself a table adapter and hook some of the GUI controls to it. The only thing that makes MySQL different from any other database is the specifics of the connection string. Once your connected, you really are insulated from the database; you shouldn't care whether it is Oracle, SQL-2005 or MySQL. This is a good thing.

Hi
I have a form, and in this form I have a web browser control, which displays word documents as HTML. This application I have developed runs on my intranet, but what I like to know is, if I hold down the left button of my mouse, and drag it over some text, how do I access the text that has been selected?
This has been baffling me for days, I have tried form events - mouse down and mouse up, but these don't get fired when I run it in debug.
I don't know what I am doing wrong here, but would someone, please, please, tell me what to do? I am really stuck!!!

The browser is not getting the events, Word is. I'm not sure how you get around that, the way you're doing things.

Since you're running Word in a web browser, there are no events to get. There is no way to get at the text that is selected in Word.

I am in a scenario where I have made a class library (*.dll) file.
At some point I need to raise an event( from within a class of the *.dll library) of a class(Like Event in the Class shown Below) which is outside or out of the scope of the *.dll library. How do I do it?
Do I need to add interface in that particular class of the *.dll library and implement in the calling class or any technique?
Does anybody have some idea?

There's no magical difference between events in a Form and events in a class library. A Form is just another class.
The code snippet you've posted is correct. You just have to keep going and flesh it out with an Event Args class of your own making and add some code that raises the event.

I've been given the job to update a legacy VB app to include image display on a form. I'm trying to find out if VB 2005 has built-in support for displaying these image types: jpg, gif, bmp, and png. Or do I need to get a third-party image library?

Look into the PictureBox control. The Image property should be fairly self-descriptive, and Image.FromFile will give you the image itself. However, this will lock the file - if you don't want this effect, use Image.FromStream instead

Well, think about it logically. You start with an amount, and you need to split it down. You have only certain denominations available, right ? So, if you have $53.32, what's the highest denomination that goes into that ? If it's $20, then you would have $33.32 left. So, what's the highest that goes into that ? $20, so you now have $13.32. That's the sort of process your code will go through, subtracting whatever amount represents the biggest note or coin that can be put on the pile.

The main point is that your instructor wants you to learn about floating point and integer math. Check out this brute force approach to your problem. You would have to extend it to complete your project, but you should get the idea.

I need to manipulate the standard openfiledialog tool.I need it to respond and handle an event when i change the file type.
I will have a couple of file type choices in standard openfiledialogbox and when i click to sql file type ,i need an other screen pop up.

your best bet is to write more efficient SQL. You may want to also get a more up to date database server, and perhaps buy some RAM

Hello everyone,
I just wonder what's wrong with my code. Actually I want to use openfiledialog to locate an access database file and then display it in datagridview. I used following connection string:
Dim sConnectionString As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Extended Properties=;Data Source=" & fi.DirectoryName
and following to call the table
Dim objCmdSelect As New OleDbCommand("select * from table1" & fi.Name, objConn)
But I get the famous error: "the microsoft jet database engine cannot open the file. it is already opened exclusively by another user or you need permission to view its data."
But neither by database is open nor its password protected.
Please help me resolving this problem
