Hi,
I use to code with the C# language and accessing web services methods are uber easy with the help of VS Studio. But now im trying to do the same, but using Javascript instead.
The link to the webservice:

Now the thing is,
1.how do a connection to the web service so that i will be able to get access the methods so that i be able to use it on my form.
2. if there are other ways to access the methods of the web service mentioned above, what are the steps? any tutorials that i can look at in order to understand how Javascript will be able to achieve that.

There is this error 415. which i believe is the Unsupported media type; bad format error. how do i solve this.

Hi people,
I want to develop a news site with articles, where each article has an option of posting comments to it in the bottom, in a discussion/threaded way.
I'd like to do every thing myself without using any ready-made libraries for that matter.
The problem is that I don't know where to start and what tools to select and learn.
I am a SW developer in C++/OpenGL/3D... I also know a fair amount of SQL and a little bit of Python.
What set of tools should I pick?
C#/ASP.NET ??
PHP??
Java??
Python?
Please advise.

C#/ASP.NET. It's OO and C# looks like C++, it's the most friendly environment for C++ devs to write web apps.

so i'm writing some basic drag-drop code and it all works fine in FF3 but in IE it seems that the mouseup event isn't being handled properly ... does anyone know of any "known issues" related to this?

The only one i can think of off-hand is that if the element you're dragging has text content IE will start selecting it, which can get weird but isn't really a big deal to work around. Oh, and if you're detaching and re-attaching elements containing form controls, it'll sometimes lose attributes.
Keep in mind: IE's event bubbling model works a bit... differently. If you have event handlers at multiple levels, and depend on events reaching them in a certain order, then this might lead to problems.

I have a classic asp application which allows the use of diacritics (accented characters). The values containing the characters are being passed between a series of pages (wizard pattern) until the user submits the final page.
As I inspect each page in the flow, the diacritics are being passed correctly between all the previous pages. But on the final submit the entire characters are being stripped from the value submitted. So, "Producciòn" becomes "Produccin". I'm just using request.form("....") to retrieve the values.
The page headers are all the same (same includes same html head settings). Why would the characters be dropped?

Are they being dropped prior to submission (check the values in the form fields), during submission (check the actual POST with Fiddler or equiv), or during receipt (examine the request server-side; if you're doing ASP.NET, then the raw request is available somewhere in the current HttpContext object i believe, but poke around a bit).
My first guess would be that you have the encoding set incorrectly on the last page, causing the browser to "correct" the characters... but a bit of detective work should take you a lot further than that.

Ok, a co-worker was able to help me. The issue was most definately an encoding issue as was stated. I believed that was the case, but had been changing the encoding on the referring and target pages w/o any luck. As it turns out I had to change the encoding on every page in the process and that fixed the problem. Here's the page that saved my hide:

Before the changes, this is the value that was passed between the pages:

now the value being passed is:

Google labs is just a set of links to other google applications plus the facilty to add comments etc. What are you trying to achieve here?

Actually I want to perform the following functionality.
When user enter any character in the text box,system should show all the suggestions related to the entered character. For eg if we press “a” the system should show all the words stored in database which starts with a. Just like google lab. When we press “a” in google lab shows all values which start with “a” in drop down.

So its nothing to do with Google Labs, you just want a drop down combo box with autocomplete. You need to bind a combo box to your datasource and (probably) use AJAX to give you your autocomplete functionality.

Anyway, I had a look and in my opinion its really a fairly basic control that should be easy to reproduce. I suspect getting the performance from the database would be the real challenge.

Hi, how can i know and change the status to "downloaded" if the file download is already done downloading?
For example i want to download an mp3 file, since i used mime types i can't control and know that the download process is already finished..

Is there any other idea on how to? Coz in musicpass.com they can know if you have successfully finished downloading on the tracks.

Change the status of what?
Most browsers will automatically keep track of the "visited" state of links, all you really need to do is set up a CSS class that has the look you want "downloaded" items to have...
Rather than letting your web server serve files directly, you could write a script of some sort to serve them upon request, and record the download afterwards (being sure to avoid recording it if the transmission is interrupted). This isn't terribly reliable, and will probably add a fair bit of load to your server...
You could force users to install a custom application that does nothing but download files from your site and notify you after the download completes successfully. This is sure to drive away potential users...
