You could try using ShellExecute()... You could implement it as follows:
ShellExecute(NULL, "open", "IEXPLORE.EXE", "", "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\", SW_SHOWDEFAULT);
This would open up Internet Explorer. To read more about ShellExecute() look at the documentation on MSDN

A colleague is about to go for a C++ test (he has little chance) and I suggested writing some C++ snippets and generate the C-code to get an understanding of how it works. But this option does not seem available nowadays. This is a real shame (crime?) since it was a method I used very effectively to de-mystify the language. If you know of a way to do this w/o downloading legacy CFront versions I'd be interested (I thought I remembered a VC++ switch to do this but all it does now is run thro' the std C++ pre-processor)"

I'm afraid that C++ is evolved beyond the limits of CFront.
But why should you rely on such an approach to learn C++.
The differences with C are now getting to big to make C++ interchangeable with C.
I know it is still possible to write any C++ program in C but the effort in this
writing and the complexity wouldn't help you to understand C++.
Its better to learn C++ using C++. The bottom line of C++ isn't really hard to understand, certainly when one knows already C. The hard parts, extreme (think of the boost libraries) are indeed not for beginners. But then again, one can manage very well without them.
So my advice would be, If the main issue is to learn C++, just learn it by creating simple classes, simple application, and grow from there.

Regardless of what you say, is it actually possible to generate C from C++ with current IDEs? Or has that been dropped? I never knew it was ever possible in fact.
The reason my colleague is asking this question is possibly because he learnt C++ when it was new (he's been in the industry a while), so at that time such an approach may have been instructive.

I've learned C in school switching almost immediately to c++. And I never had any problems to create (read compile) a working c++ program. But those school projects are in fact very basic forms of C++.
So yeah I have written an C++ program, but if falls under the term C with classes. I've learned to write/design my first C++ program in the industry. It toke me about a month of 6 to learn to use the MFC libraries. Two years later wasn't to afraid to run/peek and even poke into their code.
But to fully understand C++, I'm still learning today (9 years later) and still haven't reached the limits of this marvelous language.

Well, I'm one of those who has largely moved away from C++, partly dictated by industry trends within the Microsoft camp. However, I'm not shedding any tears. Occasionally, I do some maintenance work in it and it's generally pretty unpleasant.
My take nowadays is that I wouldn't mind writing new C++ code myself provided it's with up-to-date tools (too much code still stuck in VC++ 6 era). Also, I'd still rather do C++ than C, given the choice.

The MS C++ compiler doesn't generate C code, it directly compiles the C++ source that you give it. You'd need to find a compiler that goes through the intermediate step of changing C++ into C à la cfront.

HI all.
I have problem:
I write class to hanedle 'DBF' file.
But wen I try to use my class in some program that I write in C++ 6.0 I get some problem.
I write this class in C++.NET and defaulte wos "Use Unicode Character Set"
In my project on C++ 6.0 defaulte is not unicode char set, Sow can you help me how to convert my project char set.

But indeed, you can choose to make a UNICODE build.

I was wondering if is that possible to apply a custom skin for a number of different buttons (and not the same skin for all buttons) like a media player with play, pause, stop etc using DirectSkin OCX?

I´m having some problem with my app.
In my computer it works fine, but when I use it in other computers or my mates try to use it on their notebook (a portable computer is called like that, isn't it?) sometimes some controls dissapear... For example a Static text, a button... It´s random. It dowsan't happen regularly... Why could it be?

Yes, I´m using release build.
Anyway, we are using the exe, the definitive app with its setup and all the files.
What makes me sick is that it doesnt happen in my computer and my mate working on another city can find it really easyly. Could it be some hardware differences?

Try scaling the problem down to just a simple dialog box with a handful of controls.

Update the video driver. I remember seeing tree controls start drawing funky (like only half of the [+] button showing up), and it was fixed in newer drivers.
