Hello all!
i want to add my custom attribute to a Control member of a form. For exmaple there is the following code line:
<myattribute()> _ Public WithEvents grdTest as DataGridView
Now, at runtime, i want to read the the information of the MyAttribute instance of the grdTest-Control but when i call GetCustomAttributes of the PropertyInfo of the grdTest control instance the resulting array has zero elements ... it seems, that the changes i made in the TestForm.Designer.vb are not compiled ...
has anyone any idea?

Do attributes use < and > in VB, instead of [] ?

thank you.... hmm ... yes: in VB you must use "<" and ">" and if you want to write it in multiple lines (like in C#) ... you must write an underscore... that is very "un-handy" (??)

hi. my question is how can i make a form in vb.net that retrieves the usernames from mysql database of the forum that i have hosted in the www.awardspace.com.
Im new in this things of databases and im building a app that shows all the usernames registered but this part is making my head spin. lol

Well first you will need something to list those in, .NET 1.1 would be a DataGrid, .NET 2.0 will be a DataGridView. You need to create some type of stored procedure or parameterized query that will access the database and return a dataset of names that you will then set as the datasource to the DataGridView and can then call .DataBind.
The good thing about .NET 2.0 is that they make it much more simple that it even needs to be so people can easily create bad code and foster bad habits but if it is just a simple application that will be used internally by yourself you can probably get away with it. Any of the concepts you dont understand can easily be searched for with Google and you will get some greate articles with step by step instructions.

the connection is my problem, i have no idea how to connect to database, the only tutorials i found in the net is how to connect to mysql database in local computer, but my database is hosted in anothet site, more especific in www.awardspace.com.

Ahhh, I see. Well then you will need to have access through any security on the site and probably the IP address of the database. When you are remote instead of accessing SQLServer01 you would access 999.999.999.999 or whatever the IP is. As long as you have THAT piece and you have access into the server then everything should be the same.
Just in case you need it - www.connectionstrings.com[^].

that help alot, now i just need to figure out to use it. lol my app is cuurently connecting to a access database but that sucks because every time the users use it the program have to upload it via FTP to the server again.
Did you have any example of how to use the connection string?
in any case thanks for the help

but now i going to have to host the database in my computer.
the awardspace server does not accept remote connections. i have no other choice but to host in my own pc. thanks for your help

I have an Access 2003 database and using VB.Net 2003
I have a query in Access e.g. myQuery. In this query it has a date field. I want to pass 2 parameters to this field (myDate) e.g. between 01/01/1999 and 30/01/1999.
My query in VB.Net is
"EXECUTE myQuery #01/01/1999#, #30/01/1999#"
For some strange reason it is only picking up the 01/01/1999 value.
The question is,
How can I pass 2 parameters via VB.Net to a field in Access which uses the between date function in a field.

The standard way to do it is to use an OleDbCommand object, supplying it with the name of the stored procedure, and a couple of OleDbParameter objects.

you can use contextmenu in vb.net for right click option.
And add menu items for menu.

i dont want user to get connectd into web
i dont have any idea to make users to enter the key given to him while installing

we can use any cryptography algorithms to generate a key but how to embed it, so user will enter it while installation
if i am correct those things will be related with registry
i dont have any idea pls provide some help

You have two options:
1 - you can write a C++ dll which will allow you to require a password from the installer itself
2 - you can write some code inside your app that requires a key to be entered
In both instances, you have two choices:
1 - generate a key that is unique to the machine, which means they'd need to call you in order to finish the install
2 - just put a key in there that's the same for everyone

Obviously, you would 'embedd' it, by writing code that requires the key to be entered.

The registry is one obvious place to store that the key was already entered, so you don't ask for it again, yes.
One thing you need to know. If your app is VB.NET, a tech savvy user can decompile it, remove the licence code, and recompile. Easier still, they can read your code with a tool like Reflector, and just read how you generate your key, and thus discover it without having to know it in the first place.

hi i have two tables like want to display based on the date:
eg:
table1:
Id cardDate Intime1 Outtime1
1 12/22/2006 09:00 20:00
2 12/22/2007 09:00 20:00
3 12/22/2006 09:00 13:00
and table 2:
Id leaveDate Intime2 Outtime2
3 12/22/2006 13:00 20:00
4 12/22/2006 09:00 20:00
5 11/11/2006 09:00 20:00
If i select the date 12/22/2006" then it want to display like:
Id Carddate InTime1 Outtime1 Leavedate Intime2 Outtime2

No,it willnot work,
Ur query will work,when that two tables have same id...,
If table1 have particular date on some other ids,
then those records willn't display...,
Similarly table2 also have paricular date some other ids those records will not display...,
ex:
table1:
Id cardDate Intime1 Outtime1
1 12/22/2006 09:00 20:00
2 12/22/2007 09:00 20:00
3 12/22/2006 09:00 13:00
7 12/22/2006 09:00 20:00
and table 2:
Id leaveDate Intime2 Outtime2
3 12/22/2006 13:00 20:00
4 12/22/2006 09:00 20:00
5 11/11/2006 09:00 20:00
8 12/22/2006 09:00 20:00
see ur query willn't show id=7 & 8,
and ur query will display table2 all records it willn't check the date condition
and it willn't show at one row when the date will be there in two tables

after connecting vb6 with sql+, i can create normal data reports but how should i create dynamic data reports........
or
i use only one data environment and one form and one data report then how should i create such a report that the value entered in the text box of the form(for example a class in a school like 10th or 12th) then how should it be possible that i can create a report that whatever class is entered in the text box i get the fields of that class from the table of the students in the same data report........

Hi can you plz advice me how to filter file while upload image through webapplication for example when open dialogue box has open you want to show the file type with *.jpg and *.gif the file dialogue box should not show any other file type.

simply set your OpenFileDialog box property like.....
OpenFileDialog.Filter = "JPG Files(*.jpg)|*.jpg|GIF Files(*.gif)|*.gif"
thus Your OpenFileDialog box will not show any other file type.....
