Hi,

I would recommend you to go for a dual core processors if you are planning to use your PC for multimedia purposes.

Better Performace in 64 bit machines can be obtained by running 64 bit version of the software you are planning to use.

Motherboard too plays a vital role in obtaining better performance.The interface through which it communicates with the processor ie FSB (front side bus) should be high. make sure your motherboard supports FSB frequency offered by the CPU (you can locate the FSB frequency on the processor box) that you choose.
