Just as you need Windows to run Windows programs, VB6 runtime library to run VB6 programs and Java Virtual Machine to run Java programs, you need the .NET framework to run .NET programs.

check out PSEXEC.EXE from Sysinternals.com once you have loaded the .NET framework on his computer.

PSEXEC is flagged by most virus software as a potentially unwanted program and is usually not allowed to execute.

My apologies if this is inappropriately placed. But this seemed the "least inappropriate" forum for this.
I'm trying to evaluate 3rd party win forms controls for creating property sheets (much like those in the VS IDE, but a fair bit more complex.)
What I seem to be finding is that almost nobody does this, which leads me to the conclusion that I'm searching on the wrong keywords.
DevExpress has an outstanding "Vertical Grid" control that has a cape and "S" on it's chest. But I need to evaluate competitors. SyncFusion doesn't seem to have one. Infragistics doesn't seem to have one.
The closest they come is a normal data grid with a couple custom control overlays for editing, which is a very hacky approach that would certainly crack under the weight of our requirements.
I HAVE to be missing something.
Any ideas?

This is driving me crazy, not because it doesn't work, but because sometimes it does!
Maybe I just shouldn't be trying to work in this manner at all, however, here is a simplified version of the problem.
I have a serviced component (Business Rules) written in .Net 2.0 installed on Server1. This calls other stuff including SQL 2005
I have a WebService written in .Net 2.0 installed on Server2.
The Webservice code calls the serviced component.
A .Net Windows Forms client calls this webservice.
If Server1 and Server2 are infact the same server then there are never any problems, however, in the two server environment some methods cause the serviced component to auto register on Server2 (the web server). Consequently the method errors as the identity is not configured correctly. Of course it isn't it should never be configured at all on Server2!
I have two methods as examples.
1. public System.Data.DataSet GetContactById(System.Guid id, string UserName)
This works fine.
2. public System.Data.DataSet GetOtherContactById(System.Guid id)
This auto registers the Serviced Component.
Unfortunatly this is just a small part of a huge application and my attempts to replicate the error on a small scall have failed.
Has anyone come accross this behavior?

I need to make a connection from a c# application running locally on a PC to a MS access db running on a web server with.
Essentially, I would like to use something like
string strConn = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=http://www.domain.com/db/mydb.mdb;";
Any suggestions would be great.

Is there a way to update it then without actually having a script on the server? I hear you can do it with a Sql DB.

Nope.

SQL is the language that you use to query the database, it has nothing to do with how you connect to the database. Access also uses SQL.
I suppose that you mean Microsoft SQL Server. That is a database server, in contrast to Access that is a file based database. You can connect to a database server from anywhere, but for a file based solution you need direct access to the actual file.

Hi Almerica.
First, has you been thinked that if the Virtual connection to a Access Db was possible do you really want make it?.
Remember this, When you open a Microsoft Access DB with OleDb, this block the file for other users.
Why don't try using Free DataBases like MySQL.
I'd suppouse that these have more powerful that Access.

I am working on a Winforms app that has two database's defined in the datasources page.
One is a WinMobile database(.sdf). The other is a Paradox database(ODBC).
I need to do a couple of things.
1.First Insert all records from the clients table, and other related tables in the Paradox database to the Client's table and other related tables in the WinMobile database.
2. When that is done I will need to be able to read the records that are new or changed(already defined in tables) in each table and sycronize them in both databases.
In Delphi I did this in a similar app for Palm databases with While loops.
table1.first
while not table1.eof (end of database table)
do begin
add records to table2....
table1.next
What is the best way in C#? While loops or SQL? Some C# syntax pointers would be greatly appreciated too. I need as much guidance as I can get

I seem to remember that the .NET Dataset has a "Merge" capability. This might do exactly what you're after.
Just taken a quick look at the documentation, looks like what you have to do is fill in one dataset from the ODBC database, fill another from the mobile database. Then on the ODBC version call Merge passing the mobile one to it.

In the Paint event for an application, I have the potential of two different background image properties that are assigned in the application. Each of the background image properties could be assigned to a particular control based upon conditions in the application.
The question is: How do I uncover which background image is assigned to the control and perform a comparison? The code is as follows:

i don't under stand your problem completely
but if you created a control why don't you create a property which will give a certain value with each picture
for example you have two images which can be chosen for your control take a bool variable assign it true if the image 1 is chosen or false for the other one

I guess what I would need to know is how do I retrieve the path to the background image of the control into a string so that I could perform a comparison between that string path and strNewBackPath? The way the code is currently structured is I am comparing objects which is an inherently flawed idea. That is, as I understand it, one object will invariably be different from another object iteration. Thus, how would I retrieve the background image path as a string so that I could perform the comparison?
