I have a MainMenu with multi MenuItem on it. I want to disable that menuitem when that childform open. And enable that menuitem when childform close. How can I control it. Plz help me Thanks a lot.

Build one function in MDI like this
Public Sub SetMenu(Enable as boolean)
mnuITem.enabled=enable

and call this from mdiChild
like me.Parent.SetMenu(True)

Dear Sir/Madam,
I posted my first question here yesterday and received some advice on that. But the result is still empty. For clarity sake: I designed a database application by using VB.Net as interface and SQL Server 2000 as back end data stored. My clients wants to use the local language, Khmer or Cambodian.
The data type for the text string is NvarChar. For example I want to search for a particular person by his/her first name:
I wrote the typical query statement but the result is empty. But when I double check the data stored in the table, there exists such name. I tried to use the "N" keyword, it's still doesn't work.
What is the solution to this situation? Will it support for searching using "like" key word?

I guess You are using VB.Net...
It wont update because they are different objects...

If they are both of the same type, you can make the method static, which would mean it can't access any member variables. Either way, you can use delegates to hook methods between classes.

Hi All
I am having a requirement to apply for a font (Frutiger 55 Roman) over my label on a windows form. I have installed this font and I couldn't see in the Font dialog box of the label property section during design time.
I have tried to apply this font during run time, but also I didn't get that font and instead Microsoft Sans Serif font has come.
How can I apply this new font over the label?
If any one has solution please share it with me.

You can the get the available fonts in VS using
comboBox1.Items.AddRange(FontFamily.Families);
To change the font
label1.Font = new Font ("Courier", 10, FontStyle.Bold);

If your font doesn't show up, it's possible that it's corrupted.
Try going into the Fonts folder in C:\Windows and seeing if the font is listed, then double-click it to get a "test" page showing your font.

I have a color picker control on a form VB.Net form. When I select a color it changes the color of the txt on a label on the form. How can I save this value to the underlying Access database? The form and it's fields are already linked to the dataset, table and database etc.
Basically I want the end user to be able to pick, then save say the company's color to the database.
1. What "type" field should the field in the Access table be?
2. What code do I use to commit the selected color's value to the database?

The type is an 32-bit Integer. You then have to get the value of the color your user picked as an Integer, then just save that value.

E.g.: RichTextBox1.SaveFile (“C:\myfile.rtf”)
You can load it by
RichTextBox1.LoadFile (“C:\myfile.rtf”)

That overwrites the existing file.
I want to append to the existing file.

It can't be done using the SaveFile method. It only overwrites.
IIRC, because of the format of an RTF file, you have to load the file you want to append to, add your new data to the end of that, then resave the file, overwriting the entire file with the new version.

I am using crystal report 8 and vb.net 2002. I want to display photos or images at runtime within crystal reports based on some criteria. For examplae display employee photos based on employee ID provided at runtime.

you can bind directly to the report if it is in db.

Goto www.smartdraw.com and look for their tutorials. For a greater in-depth understanding of systems analysis, get a good book such as Sommerville - Software Engineering or perhaps Whitten - Systems Analysis and Design Methods.

I need to create a VB 6 string variable, in a VB.Net app. I then need to send it to an unmanaged API. (If I send a VB.Net string class, the receiving API blows up; it does not recognize the class. It needs a VB 6 string variable.). Does anyone know how to do this?
