hi all
I have declare following variable in a function
DECLARE @strTemp VARCHAR(100)
SET @strTemp=(SELECT AiLine From Table1 WHERE id=1)
Now can I get the true Length of the '@strTemp' Value?
can any body please help me..

Hi All,
Can anyone answer me this question.
Is there any restriction in the number of rows returned by a select command? Meaning that assume that I have over 1 million records in my table and I do a select from this table. Does my SQL Server 2000 restrict me by showing only first 1 lakh records or 2 lakh records etc etc. Does SQL has the capability of showing any number of rows returned by the SELECT command.

Yes, the limitation is on the client, can the client display that many records.
Beyond that why would you want to over whelm your use with 1 Million records? There is no way they could use that much information at once. It’s just better to break it down. Just my two cents.

I have a little question.
I work in VS 2005.
I want to create data-bound application with SQL Server 2000.
I've created data-bound controls on the form by dragging my node from the Data Sources window onto the form. This wisard creates BindingNavigator control too. It works good.
But I want to change work of his button DeleteItem.
I want before deleting item to ask ("Are you shure ?") and if answer "No"
to cancel deleting.
How can I cancel deleting ? I want to do it in Click event of button DeleteItem.
Help me please.

I'm not an expert but i think You can do something like this:
1. Set your BindingNavigator's 'DeleteItem' property to: 'none' (in form designer)
2. In the code window of your form write:

I have a SQL Server view that has three linked tables (one main table and two reference data lookup type tables) and have added "INSTEAD OF UPDATE" / "INSTEAD OF INSERT" triggers to it so that I can add/update the main table through the view.
This works well from T-SQL or through the enterprise manager application, but when I link to the view through Microsoft Access it is read only. Does anyone know how I can convince Microsoft Access that the view is, in fact, editable.

It turns out that you have to write a "Data Definition Query" in access to add a fake unique index on the view and execute this before the view will be considered editable by Access.

Which version?
In SQL Server 2005 you can use Try..Catch.. exception handling but in 2000 (or other RDBMS) you need to check the value of @@error after each statement and maybe use a GOTO to jump to an error handler in your proc code?

In sqlserver 2005 u can handle exceptions
using try catch block
but in sqlserver 2000
u have to rollback the transaction if any error occurs
That will be caught by @@error

I want to create a windows application which contains a datagridview control, and a ‘save’ button.
Once the form is loaded a table (Table1) will be populated into the datagridview automatically. Users can modify the data cell contents and then click the save button to update the MS access database file.
I setup the datasource and datamember of the datagridview porperty to be a simple MS Access datatable file db.mdb which only contains a table “Table1” with 2 fields, ‘ID’ (Text) and ‘value’(Number), 2 columns are displayed in the datagridview automatically.
Then I added a button_click event of the save button, and coding as below:

this.testTableTableAdapter.Update(this.dataSet.Table1);
this.testTableTableAdapter.Connection.Close();
Once the application is running, the values in Table1 are populated successfully into the datagridview, however after the user modified some of the values in the cells and then click ‘Save’, the MS Access database file is not updated.
I have checked that the dataset is updated as the user modifies the values, so the parameter of the Update method of the data adapter has no problem.
Could anyone give me a help, thanks.

Make sure your DataAdapter logic, including TableMappings, Fill, etc are all within a Try/Catch block, the you can print out the Exception.Message to see what is causing the I/O failure.
