I recently came accreoss an application that creates a database, complete with data and stored procedures etc. on installation of the application.
Can anyone tell me how to do this? I use VS.NET 2003.

The way I do this is to ship the .mdb file of the database with all the procs, tables, reference data etc in it and use sp_dbattach to attach it to the server.

Another way to do it is to script the database and it's data in an .SQL script file, then have the SQL server execute it during the installation.

I believe you can script the DB objects, but not the data. I have been wondering myself how to do this with scripting...
The way we handle the problem is to include a script, which is run to create the tables, views, SPs, etc. Then, we also ship an XML file of "base" or "setup" data that we load into a dataset, and then save to the database, right after initial setup.

There's absolutely no reason why you wouldn't you be able to put a bunch of INSERT INTO statements into a text file and have SQL run that too.
The XML version you have works too.
If you have a TON of data to preload, create a DTS job to import it. If it's a bunch of data, an XML import works too. If it's just a few things, you could drop the appropriate INSERT INTO statements into the SQL script...
The point is it can be automated, it's just a matter of preference how you want to do it.

To create the scritp just right click on the database and try to find the command "Generate to script..." may be in the "All task" sub menu. But it just generate the structure of the database, not all of the record.

Hi all,
is there another control or a way to ovorcome the timer limitations in VB6? I mean that the standard control can be configured to a maximum of 65535 ms. I'm interested to set it to minutes. Is it possible or is there any other control to do that?

There's no way to change the control. Setting a Timer for minutes is also not a real good idea. Usually, people are doing this thinking it can be used as a scheduler to launch some task at a specified time. That's a bad design.
In any case, you're much better off setting the Timer for, say, 60 seconds, then in the Tick event, checking the current time against the scheduled time of the process you want to launch.

Only if the motherboard supplyies such information and you have some software interface to get at it. 99% of them don't.

IF the motherboard supply information, where does this information is located? In the system information or in device manager dialog?

You'll have to consult with the motherboard manufacturer. There is no standard to follow, therefore, no way to know how it's going to be exposed.
It's not going to be listed anywhere in the System Properties, Device Manager dialog, or anywhere else for that matter.

i have two tables from each table one unique columns values are displayed on two combo box i also have a textbox, i have developed a datagrid which on clicking add button displays thes three values and one value based on a formula as first row of datagid. but when i again select the different values to insert in my datagrid as second row clicking add button replace the old valus with new valus.
how can i add more rows in my datagrid in every click preserving my old selected values?

I was wandering, is there any way to open/view a text file using the default/any text editor?
I am creating an application that will generate a report. It would be very nice if there is a button that will open the generated report.

The other issue is, my file doesn't have any extension.
So when i tried to run it, it will give me an error msg saying "there is no application to open this file".
I was wondering, since i can't modify the name of the file, can i just specify i want to use a text editor to open the file or can i make it to treat the file as a text file?
This application will be used in many different computers with different textEditor ex. notepad++ and textpad

In that case, using the very same Process class, launch Notepad and make the file you want to open a command line parameter. The same examples in the docs apply to doing it this way too.

Yes, I'm doing it this way:
