Drivers are an odd thing:
Written in C, but the complexity is not the C language.
Functionally simple, yet fiendishly complex.
They dont fit into the other forums, C++, operating systems for example.
So can we have a new forum for windows and linux driver developement?
Nunc est bibendum!

My lates article seems to be wider than a screenfull ( this one[^])
Am I doing something wrong that it is making it appear so?

In Firefox, all the forums I visit are too big for the screen, they seem to be about five pixels to wide and this is causing a scroll-bar to appear. I don't know if this is the same issue.

The code snippets (inside the PRE blocks) are too wide. Restrict their width to 600 pixels and you'll be fine.

As Nish said - keep the source code snippets fully visible within the edit window when editing the article and you'll be fine. I've gone ahead and made some edits to illustrate. Take a look now.

A place to post answers to the same questions that keep coming up on the lounge over and over and over and over and over ...etc.
I floated the idea in the lounge: http://www.codeproject.com/lounge.asp?msg=1195457#xx1195457xx[^]
and it seemed to be well received.

like the one that comes with trillian. It expresses so much when you really need it.

The trillian one kinda looks like it could either be used to express a desire for something or to indicate that someone is a drooling idiot.
That one kinda looks sweaty and crazy eyed, still appropriate though for certain occasions.;)

we need a new section for SOA articles. currently we are using WebServices written in C# which does not really show the full context of what we need to show. Especially as we get into BPEL and other languages.
WHen I submit an article it would be nice just to have a section for SOA. what does everyone think?
|
|
|
|

I agree. With the way web-development is moving, a category for SOA would be a good idea. It would certainly make searching for articles on the subject quicker.

Now don't get me wrong, I really like new C++/CLI language extensions, but the forum doesn't look good. How many threads there are really C++/CLI related?
I think it would be better to merge this forum with VC++ forum. C++/CLI is a VC++ technology anyway.
My programming blahblahblah blog. If you ever find anything useful here, please let me know to remove it.

Once VS2005 is released, there will probably be a lot of posts on using the new C++/CLI features. I wouldn't want them to clutter up the VC++ forum. It is hard enough at times figuring out what posters are asking for without having a mix of managed and unmanaged questions.

That was the old Managed C++ forum, which didn't get much traffic either (maybe because no one used MC++). Maybe people don't know what C++/CLI means and they think it's a plain C++ forum. That will surely change once Whidbey comes out, assuming people use C++/CLI then.
