hi shobhana i tried what you suggested but i am facing this problem.
the problem is i am setting the ValueMember of the combobox to a different field so when i for example say ' string str = cmbJob.SelectedValue.ToString();' it retrives that particular field and not the concatenated string in the combo box.

Yes i have debugged it and the null pointer is at this point "customer[count] = new Customer();".

Thanks for your reply TorstenH but i did tested my query in the db and its working fine. its only when i use the array that i get a null pointer exception. meaning that the array is null. thank you ones again.

when i return one variable it works. you are right the "and" key cannot be used there.
