I take it you don't make the rules in your own house?

This is a collaboration website is it not?
With that said, I understand the rules... but they're also just changing them for one day on a whim, why not be consistent?

That's the understanding I share with you.
I guess because one sets the rules in one's own abode. I dont recall a pledge of consistency being a part of the contract I entered into a decade ago. I understand what you're getting at, really I think I do.
I also can't help but think that the saying about the tail not wagging the dog to be somehow pertinent.
Anyhow, hope I haven't and sorry if I've offended you or behaved poorly

Unfortunately, that's exactly the kind of speech that ISIS leaders make to their people.
USA : ISIS -- peas in a pod.
Live and let live, for f***'s sake. If your way is the only way, it's the wrong way.
Oh, and don't take it personally when people bitch about things. That's what people do.

Did you reply to my message. Which part?
To you, this is ISIS speak:
<<
Encourage people to start a business. A hair cutting place, a handy man service. Maybe lowes moves in, and starts training inner city people to lay tile, and do repairs. Maybe thousands of unemployed people in a city get together, and start honing their skills fixing the homes in their neighborhood for next to nothing. (By the way, I programmed for FREE to get experience, then got paid A LOT once I had the experience). It beats being angry.
>
But when the LEFT in this country says that speaking against global warming should be a felony. That is NOT like ISIS?
I see the two as opposites.
I am saying don't be angry, be productive.
That is ISIS?
Or are you saying it is Rhetoric, and a "PUBLIC" position while my "PRIVATE" position is different?
I don't care if people complain. I sure do. The squeeky wheel and all.
I just REALLY hate ISIS and stamping on peoples freedoms, so I take a little offense to the unquoted statement that I could be making speeches for the likes of ISIS. Either intential or out of ignorance.
Not sure what I said that implied my way was the only way. Was suggesting we come together.

Yeah, I see... I was giving an EXAMPLE or set of examples...
That was NOT intended to be LITERALLY the list of things.
let me summarize differently my intention:
Wherever you are at in life, choose what you want to do, and do it.
Preferably within in the law, and hopefully with a positive impact on where you live.
Is that "Less ISIS" dictation of living according to my values?
And if not. PLEASE give me an example of a way to reach those who are far less fortunate TODAY.
What message do you send?
How do you word it?
And please. Try not to let YOUR values influence the message.

When you are dead, you won't even know that you are dead. It's a pain only felt by others.

We need to define a lot of terms, here.
Kirk 10389821 wrote: Preferably within in the law Which? Sharia law?
It comprises laws made by people for people to follow. Some of it's dumb, some of it's cruel, some of it's unenforceable, some of it's abused, and some of it's singularly good.
Show me the laws of any country that you can't say exactly the same things about.
Whose laws are right?
Buggered if I know.
Kirk 10389821 wrote: less fortunate By "less fortunate", do you mean broke?
That's not my definition. I've been broke, but it never stopped me from being happy with my family and friends, which is where the bulk of happiness lies.
Contrarily, I'm loaded, and I miss those days when I could feel truly happy, unencumbered with responsibilities and things that take up all my time. But now I'm "fortunate". Then, I was just fortunate.
Not everyone wants to dedicate their entire life to increasing their mortal wealth, which, in the end, gives them less than a smile from a child.
Sure, several people (but certainly not everyone) could become stinking rich, by dedicating their lives to doing only that, but one person climbing to the top has to do so by pushing countless others down (ask Trump), so for every one who goes up, a lot are kicked back to the bottom of the heap.
And, of course, the climb is made ever harder, if more are people trying to ascend the same, small slope, so the bottom of the slope rises, and the divide between those who are wealthy and those who are not gets ever wider, and harder to breach.
History and common sense can't be trumped by monopolar beliefs, no matter how enthusiastic they are.

Well that is a dive down into philosophy.
There is fundamentally ONLY one law. Might makes right.
It works for all animals in the jungle.
The strong survive, the weak die.
Again, I am not sure why you think I suggest chasing money. I never did.
Find something you want to do, and do it.
Preferably within the law (never said which ones, it applies locally)
And also having a positive impact on your community.
You turned that into a statement about corporate greed.
But AMAZINGLY you NEVER said what you would suggest people do.
BTW, being happy is an emotional state. One that even small children know how to induce.
apparently you have lost the skill and believe it is associated with your "fortunate" status.
Sorry to hear that.
Hope you can stop for 30 seconds, think of something SILLIER than forgetting how to be happy, and simply laugh at how easy it is to draw upon an emotional state. And Smile. And feel happy!
Really happy. Really grateful.
God Bless

Kirk 10389821 wrote: There is fundamentally ONLY one law. Might makes right. Good point.
However, it's probably safe to assume that you're not mighty, and that you're therefore wrong.
Personally, I like to think that humans have evolved past the level of animal behaviour. After all, putting animal cravings and monomaniacal behaviour behind us is one of the requirements of civilised society -- a city of even a meagre million beasts would soon devour itself.
But, obviously, some people either are, or prefer to remain, unevolved.
And, BTW, it's past midnight, so the Lounge "no politics" ban is back in force, and further political discussion can't take place here.
Unfortunately, that's one of the many, many, many laws that you have to follow, even though they are not included in your list of all laws.
Evolution (or lack of it)? No problem. Discuss away.

Irony.
The ISIS comparison is not called for. I strongly suspect that their speeches have just a touch more "we haven't hit our beheading quota for the week" or "you guys have been really enthusiastic about stoning educated women, gays, and Christians since we started child-bride Wednesdays, keep it up!"
"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics."
