I just started my own business, which means I am the CEO, the architect, the alpha developer, the documentation specialist, the customer liason, contract coordinator... but she is the accountant.... that means she makes the decisions.

I hear ya, but if the boss doesn't want me doing something the client wants me to do. Well, you get the idea. I'm gonna listen is all I'm saying.

Person with the least understanding of the implications of any decision. And the same person that will shirk any and all responsibility when the whole thing goes wrong. Further more, the snake is the person that is not around when developers are fixing things after hours to make up for these issues.

I thought it was about the coding not the architecture. In which case it would be alpha-dog.

I agree it really depends. If the customer has clearly stated what the functionality is they want, the design and implementation should be left to the coders (they are after all the professionals you hired because you can't/don't want to deal with the details yourself). Obviously if I'm creating a new product and am going to try to sell it I'll try to target some customers, but in the end if I think feature X is important enough I'll add it even if no one has asked me too.
I've on numerous occasions have automated an onerous manual process into a one click DB frontend to much rejoicing by the end users. They didn't even think about their workflow, they were convinced you had to cut and paste into excel, type in your formulas etc etc.
