I think that computers are a discrace to the human race. I think that we all would be happier without them and we all would have more time on our hands for music and dancing. I am 93 and can tell you not much has changed in my time. Sure the grass has grown but did you have to mow it. You are all as bad as each other. And you, with that evil look wrapped to your skull - I hope you die soon

This is disturbing. Dancing is evil - computers are all that stand between us and this madness.

OK, I find I disagree with some of the grouping here. Management and people skills are two very seperate capabilities/traits and I would not group them. ALthough you would like your manager to have people skills, you can have a very good manager that does not.
The basic people skill is really negotiation (with back stabbing being one implementation of the skill set.)
So my observation is this just shows why most programmers tend to create appliations in silos vs being part of a team that produces quality services and why so many arround me have no clue to what a service oriented architure is vs an appliation that allows collaboration. No degrading is inteneded just my observation (mostly of those around me on a day to day basis.)

True dat!
Besides, people skills are important in all jobs, as are management skills, if you are on that career track. The options should be limited to technical skills... even though "programming" can encompass many of the other options. Although I respect this poll (and the creator ), I think it could have been posed better.

Did the creator of this poll really think that the leading response would be anything other than programming?
This is The Code Project, right?

Throws time slowing bomb, so you can finish your projects at the same time as us VB coders

I didn't realise that time to finish was more important than having a project that works, and code that is easy to maintain ? Besides, we charge by the hour, so how do we lose out if we get the job coding in a language that takes longer ? (I'm ignoring the fact that VB being quicker is a pile of crap)

It depends on the indiviuals mind set. If you have managerial skill and are more concerned about the money than the concepts then you need to go into Administartion.
Programmng can be a thankless job.
In the long run the best Administartors are those who have been ther and done that, and are tied of doing it. In orther words I know what needs to be done, I known how to do it, but given a choose I'd rather tell someone what needs to be done and let them do all the (bloody) typing.

Oh gawd!
BTW1: Aren't you presuming a wee bit about the gender of the submitters? Last time I looked, 'sex' applied to both (or is it 'all' nowadays?) genders, and I have a female coworker who womanizes regularly (she's single at the moment, and on the prowl).
BTW2: I realize you have a novel perspective here .

You are right I have seen it all in corporate culture. Remember, who knows what the bosses sexual preferences may be? Man or woman, it doesn't matter anymore. I could tell you stories...

True enough - I based my comment on my own experience though!
I've lost count of the number of guys who've tried to pick me up for sex through (unsolicited) Yahoo IM messages.
Not one girl has done that - even though my profile clearly states that my preference is for a female partner at the moment (the guys seem to manage to miss that bit... )
There are female predators out there of course - but they're well and truly outnumbered by the guys - and some of those guys are pretty scary characters, believe me.

It works for me.

Actually, a "feck off" is more than enough for a sizeable minority...

Don't rise to him/her Anna, people as arrogant and stupid as that have no place using computers. I'm supprised his arrogance hasn't killed him yet.
