how to create a kendo UI grid for customized sorting and paging ?

hi all,
i wish to customize the kendo grid for customised sorting and paging. i.e not the default sorting/paging functionality. For that, i have thought of using a js plugin. i dont wish to use partial view. Not sure how to proceed with a function in that js file and then attach that js file with my basic kendo UI. Need urgent help.
