HI,

I am getting below error while starting the SQl agent.

The SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER) service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs.

The account have Sysadmin rights.

Please help asap.
Thanks,
Sree.

Are you still using SQL Express, as per your previous question? SQL Agent won't work with SQL Express.

If not, then check the application event log to see if the SQL Agent service has logged an error when you try to start it.

1 solution

Quite good explanation is here: SQL Server Agent will not start[^]

oj-Updated wrote:
1. the service account does not access to the \data & \log folder - check security
2. the service account is not a member of sql sysadmin
3. the service cannot connect to the sqlserver because it's unable to resolve the hostname and/or instance name - check DNS entry; can you do reverse/forward lookup; check sql alias; check hosts file
4. invalid executable defined for sqlagent - check services mgr
5. invalid \log path - check SQLServerAgent registry key
