I don't see many windows applications written in either C# or Vb.net language that require .NET and those i have heard about that use .net are for enterprises. Books however cover very good features of .NET and how it is changing and will change software industry. Yet i have read that VLC player and others widely used applications like it are written in C. So why is it being recommended to study .NET supported languages when C or Java or Python are making great influence and are top languages in software industry? Please if anyone can provide how and where .net is being used? Also please state names of applications with prerequisites to .net.

Well, all C# or VB.Net applications require the .Net framework otherwise they will not run.
Not sure where you get your information about the software industry, but .Net is widely used for the Windows platform and there is also a Linux version called Mono.
What language that is chosen depends a lot of the time of a programmers favorite language, company policy or some feature that is better in one language.
