Where can I learn how to create applications or desktop widgets?

So basically I have some knowledge about html , css and javascript from codecademy. I tried to find resources for learning about how to make an app or a widget in order to practice and maybe even try to sell it if i get better. I am trying to say that I don't know where to learn from. If you can tell me any textbooks sites or programs it would be good.
I'm talking about desktop apps or widgets for example digital clocks.
