I lost my product key for installing vb.net. I have already installed it but it needs re-installation. How can I find the key. Is it stored somewhere? Could someone help me? Thanks.

Hi,

If you still have it installed in your system, then you get the product key this way

1. Open registry window. (Start-> Run ->Regedit)
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\8.0\Registration
3. Look for PIDKEY value
4. The value is the serial key string. Just add a ‘-’ on every 5 characters and you will get your full serial key which you can use later.

I could not figure out so far if it is already "uninstalled" then how to retrieve that, if at all that is feasible.

Hope it helps you,

Hi Arindam,
That is what I want. Thanks for your help.

Normally, (for Visual Studio at least), the product key is prepadded in the installation (meaning that all installations use the same product key and that you don't need to enter your key.

I remember it was different way back when, so can I venture a guess and say that it's VB6 you're trying to reinstall?
