How Efficent is Datalist and Gridview Controls ?

Hello,
am building one shopping cart applications and am using datalist where am getting data like productName,ProductRate and Product Image from database and am trying to push the selected product to gridview for check list what i want to know is
-how is the efficiency of datalist control
-i heard that datalist will take more time for conversion and showing data to browser
-and am using datalist and gridview at a time
-my shaopping cart will be browsed min by 5000 people daily will these controls ok for this requirement
am done a lot but unable to check the efficiency so please help me out if am wrong please correct me
