Hi, I'm planning a Tip which I will illustrate by adding my code to a sample application. The sample application that I am thinking of modifying is the SportsStore MVC 4 application available on CodePlex.

SportsStore is released under GNU General Public License version 2 (GPLv2).

In your instructions to Authors, you discourage use of GPL-like licenses.

I am not at all familiar with the legal implications of the different licenses, and need a bit of help. What alternative license would you recommend for my Tip and Sample Code which would be compatible with the GPL?

You need to write your own code or respect the license of the code you use. You cannot arbitrarily change the license applying to someone else's code.

The issue is, that for my -own- code, I do not wish to impose any of the restrictions that make SportsStore unsuitable for most commercial applications. I want to show that it is trivial to plug in my code to any application and it will "just work". One alternative to SportsStore is the Music Store application at http://mvcmusicstore.codeplex.com/ which is licensed under The Microsoft Public License (Ms-PL). However, I don't like the Music Store as much as I do the Sports Store. The point is, -my- code is distinct from the code in which I want to demonstrate its use.

I don't know the answer. I'm surprised there are no other responses. You may get a better answer in the Article Help Forum: http://www.codeproject.com/Forums/1641/Article-Writing.aspx
