How to hide parameter in url in php.

Suppose url is :event.php?id=4. i want to show url like: event.php/id.....what is the procedure for that.......without using post method or session in php.......Its better if code write in .htaccess file

thnxs for reply bt the solution in that worked on whole folder and rule will hide the folder when manually enter the name it gives error..i want rule will apply only some particular pages which has parameter in their URL
