Firstly java is a programming language. Android is an operating system. This would be like comparing bananas with elephants.

However, there are loads of Android articles at various levels in CodeProject - December 2013 was "Android Month". Start there and use Google for other research.

E.g. Android - A beginner's guide[^] on codeproject

or
https://www.google.co.uk/#q=android+tutorial+for+beginners[^]

For books - Wrox has several - you would need to look at the summaries and reviews to determine which would be best for your level of knowledge.

I've heard that you can use something called JBED for running java on Android - I'll leave that research to you as I'm not familiar with it.

[EDIT - I foolishly forgot about the java environment so also have a look here[^])
