Knowing the FIlter Characteristics

Hello
I have a question say you are hardware details about word length guard bits etc. Is it possile to guess about the architecture more precise question is below.

The FIR filter is implemented using a TMS320VC5510 DSP processor. The processor word
length is 16 bits and it has a 40 bit accumulator with 8 guard bits. Describe which kind of filters(filter characteristics) you can implement using this architecture?

Solution 1

We do not do your homework: it is set for a reason. It is there so that you think about what you have been told, and try to understand it. It is also there so that your tutor can identify areas where you are weak, and focus more attention on remedial action.

Try it yourself, you may find it is not as difficult as you think!
