I am getting ready to create a phone app to drive telemarketers insane. I need to know what code/language to use. I am even up to purchasing a new phone just to accommodate the app.

Thoughts and guidance appreciated.

P.S. Does this site have an option for me to receive notification that a response has been made to this message? I have not found one yet.

You need to enable notifications. Click here (should be enabled by default). If notifications are enabled, you will have e-mail notifications paralleled with through-the-site notification in any post sent in response to your posts.

It would depend on what type of phone you buy.
Windows Phone is Silverlight, and Android and iOS phones have different developmnent environments as well.

Each of these would come with their own SDK's and development needs.

Thank you SA.
It looks as if I am going to go with Android and, eventually, will have to purchase a phone for this. Before I do, I just want to make sure that this is the way to go.

In short, I wish to write a application what will be able to work, if not run, the phone software. I understand that many apps run independently of the phone itself and just use the phone as a platform on which to run.

I realize that many phones already do this but here is an example: I want an app to use a specific ring tone when a specific caller contacts me.

Forgive me for being evasive but at this point, I have to be.

"I want an app to use a specific ring tone when a specific caller contacts me" Most modern smart phones support assigning ring tones to certain callers, and most phones can block calls internally. No extra software needed, just configure through your contact list.

You missed my point. I was just showing the level to which I want to program. I am fully aware that a phone can do what I suggested.

I am not trying for any app that runs on a phone either. I want to redesign how my phone works, the menus, and stuff. Before I start learning new code. I need to be sure that I can write for an operating system that can talk to the phone itself.
